Nope. Example- they've had plans to revitalize Government Street from Foster to downtown for at least two years. Zero progress. Nothing in the works. It still looks like Detroit.

They are moving through the process for DOTD to turn over the road to the Parish. There was a bonding issue IIRC.

That's a rather elegant way of putting it.

To be fair, that was a terrible idea.

How much money does a family need to make to have a home in a neighborhood in Baton Rouge that doesn't have declining property values?

That's way less than I would have guessed. When I was there I thought of Shenandoah as a place regular families could live with steady value, but earlier in the thread someone said its now going to crap.

Jefferson Terrace is still really nice. So is Westminster. Same for Camelot and Woodland Ridge. None of those break the bank.

Status quo. This city will remain the same as it is today because the people that have been here since it was a small town about 20 years ago are still in power. Not the government, but business people that have much to continue to gain by keeping things just the way they are. When people outside of louisiana talk about "bad politics" of louisiana, they dont only mean the politicians, they mean the backdoor cahoots so many business people are in to keep their circles of money and growth to themselves. Someone else mentioned the city of St. George, and this is a prime example. The EBR schools have had a failing grade for years and years and if you speak to anyone on the topic they will agree that the schools here are a major issue and have been that way for a while. Why no change when so many people agree on a topic that has factual information you can point to when grading the system? Do you really believe that the city of st George petitions fell short by 71 signatures out of 17,788. Look it up. Corrupt as it gets to not get that issue on the ballot and if you dig who has the most to lose on the school board and who has the vendor contracts that are worth millions for these schools, you'll see the same faces for years. Plenty of money in that industry that keeps pouring in from joe taxpayer.
Whether you like it or not, Baton Rouge is run by a very small amount of very wealthy business individuals and politicians that will continue to pull strings to keep themselves and their cohorts in power. Until Baton Rouge has a movement to overthrow the status quo, we will continue to see the same things year in and year out.

Side note, have you noticed the number of low income businesses open up recently across the city? From clothing to fast food joints, many places that are opening are targeting lower income individuals. Baton Rouge has plenty of those so the creation of low paying jobs while good, it creates an increase in under educated individuals in the city sending their children to failing schools and the circle continues but grows into a bigger circle every year.

Final vote. I'm bearish for now, but all it takes is one group of individuals that don't need anything from anyone that wants to better this city for the sake of bettering it. Problem is, who has the time to fight this battle alone? You'd be better off for your own life to just move somewhere to get away from the problem which is why you see places like Prairieville and the northshore boom with great schools and lifestyles.

Garden District,

Have you ever lived in the Garden District? It's awful. No street parking, the power goes out during every storm, and it is so close to the hood it's scary.

It's not. I know several people who live there and are happy with it. I know a young couple who just bought a house there within the last year.

I mean if you want to Bella noches, you're more than welcome.

And no, there isn't shite to do in this town.

Downtown is awful, nightlife and otherwise.

And I've lived in capital heights. What the guy said about it is pretty much spot on.

-power goes out every storm
-extremely close to the hood
-nowhere to park
-overpriced, old arse decrepit houses

I guess if you like trees and old run down houses, it's for you?

Just don't cross government.

Pretty much every way.

The suburbs there are nothing like the ones here, and their downtown actually has stuff to do, unlike here. They're right across from Canada if you want to go there.

Nightlife is 100x better. People actually go out, there's tons of young professionals..

Try getting out and seeing for yourself besides just going off of what CNN shows you of the ghetto in Detroit.
