re: Are sandals resorts trashy?

We stayed at the Sandals La Toc in summer 2012 and loved it. We got off the property a lot and got to see a lot of the island.
Experiences can vary from trip to trip - for example if there is a big wedding party staying during your trip, the chances of encountering big packs of single, fist-bumping guido dude-bros goes up exponentially... That shite can happen anywhere though, Sandals or not.
If you are looking at St. Lucia, La Toc is the best of the 3 resorts IMHO. The Grande isn't as scenic, is more expensive, and picks up a lot of cruise boat day excursion trash. Halcyon is tiny and has a lot of locals from what I hear.

Been to Sandals twice now, in Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. Neither were the least bit trashy, though we enjoyed the Montego Bay resort more because the beach and resort layout were better.

An all inclusive resort sounds pretty boring. Do they include the food at the resort in your ticket? If so that sounds very boring. You probably wouldn't even leave the resort the whole the time you're there.

That's part of the all inclusive price. All inclusive means ALL food and drinks included.

I think it really depends on the person. We went to an AI in Playa del Carmen last December and still left the resort several times. We actually made sure to pick a resort that wasn't as secluded so we could just walk out of the resort and explore 5th avenue if we wanted to and walk to the ferry to Cozumel. It was nice to leave and explore the area...and then come back to the resort and be lounging on the really nice beach on a giant beach bed while being served drink after drink and not have to worry about paying more than tips for them(I still tip when at an AI, just feels wrong not to).

Sandals are for girls, sissies, and/or (at the risk of redundancy) Eurofags.

That sounds like a relaxing way to end your day. All included drinks is great, but I would like to explore other local restaurants if in another country.

Yeah we were in walking distance to a bunch of local restaurants...but ended up eating at the resort because we knew it was already included and figured we would save the money(we also knew the resort had filtered water so didn't have to worry about getting sick from the food and food prep). However...it was nice to have that option though. But I agree...part of traveling is partaking in the local cuisine and eating local food.

Just my opinion, but all the smell-your-own-farts "culture travelers" in here should move to San Francisco to be with their own kind.
The Caribbean is a ghetto where savvy business folks can buy large amounts of fairly pristine land to make a getaway spot for first worlders. I'd rather stay in an Americanized resort and make little fieldtrips out into the ghetto then return to home base. If I wanted to fully immerse myself in their shitty cultures or whatever, I'd just go squat in a condemned house in any U.S. inner city.
Just my opinion.
or you could goe to countries that arent total shitholes where you have to be locked in a cattle pen waiting for your turn to be prodded like the other fatass Mcvacationers.

I think it's a matter of personal preference- do you want to go somewhere and do nothing or do you want an adventure. I'm not saying that because you go to all inclusive means you won't leave resort, but what's your incentive to leave? Everything there is paid for. I personally would not do all inclusive but am doing one for buddy's wedding on MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND - he's a dick.
Go to ambergris caye, Belize. Much better vacation, surprisingly amazing food, and a good balance between relax and adventure. You'll probably spend the same. We spent 3,600 for 7 nights and had free flights via points. Did VRBO and rented house, we had a maid and concierge like service. If you are into snorkeling/scuba it is hard to beat in the Caribbean.
