Looking at going on vacation in the Carribean the first week of March. Want to spend around $4,000 for 2 people. Saw Sandals Halcyon Resort in St. Lucia and could get flight and 4 nights for around $3600. Told a coworker and guy said sandals resorts are trashy. Couldn't really give me a reason other than he had mentioned sandals to his wife and she said they were for trashy people. They look and seem nice to me. Transport to and from the airport is complimentary. All food and drinks included. You can visit all three St Lucia sandals resorts so you're not stuck at the one you stay at if you want to explore other areas. To me the beach is the beach. I'm going to drink and hang out on a nice tropical beach. Maybe I'm just a redneck and don't care. What are y'all's thoughts/experiences?

Absolutely not.

Stay at the Sandals Grand St. Lucian, tho.

Thanks. Why do you say that? Better food, better beach, atmosphere? I was looking at the halcyon because it is smaller and more private looking - thinking maybe I could get away from the masses

Go and report back, I'm curious myself. Being as it's in St. Lucia I'd say probably not trashy, but not as nice as some of the other options there.

I think Sandals gets a bad rep by people just because its the "Face" or Flagship of All inclusives.

That said for our honeymoon we went to an Excellence resort. A decent bit cheaper than Sandals and seriously all we could ask for in an All inclusive. I would recommend at least giving it a look. They have one on Punta Cana

I have been to sandals in Montego Bay and had no complaints! Def not for trashy people, not sure where that info came from? They are a bit higher, but that's bc they are more popular. I don't think u will be didsappointed, but just my opinion

My wife and I stayed at the La Toc, St. Lucia two years ago and loved it. Not trashy at all. Your coworker is trashy.

Why not just go to Miami - its way cooler and probably 1/2 the price

Sandals isn't trashy per se, but it is cliched and unoriginal

I stayed at a house in St. Lucia. The man who ran the property was a local and amazing guy who showed us all over the island. Whenever we past a Sandals (by boat) he would spit in the water because locals are not allowed on the property unless they work there. I found that very sad and very interesting.

Honestly, stay at a Sandals anywhere and it will be the same experience at every other Sandals. If you're looking for a more unique experience, avoid them. Just my opinion though.

Sandals are just cruises that aren't in a boat. So trashy.

This. Beautiful resort. Great service, food and scenery. All of the resort sponsored excursions we did we're awesome too. Make sure to do the tree top zip line and the volcano tour

Sandals Grand St. Lucian

Horrible advice. That place sucks. Will never go to another Sandals again due to wife and I's experience there. Yes they are trashy, wanted a romantic trip but felt like spring break. Guido central. Panama City south.

Been twice to Sugar Beach/Jalousie Plantation in St Lucia and loved it. Could probably do one if their "sugar Mill" rooms on your budget. Wife and I booked a sugar mill room on the last trip and were upgraded to a villa.

Eta: the only good part of Sandals was the excursions because we weren't at the resort. Read tripadvisor and read the negative reviews. They are spot on. The place is run down. Plan to eat at the buffet unless you make reservations for a real meal 3-4 days in advance.

Wife and I enjoy traveling and have been many places. We always look for the best value and Sandals was not it. Felt ripped off for what you get and is the only negative review I've made on trip advisor.

My wife and I went here on our honeymoon less than 2 months ago also. We had a blast and loved every minute of it.
OP, i highly recommend it. Zero trash, and can't go wrong with sandals all inclusive.

I went to st lucia about 6 months ago. Stayed at the grande. I would steer away from the halycen unless price is an absolute killer for you. Get the most basic room at la toc or the grande. We were never in our room really so it didn't matter. If you do stay at the halycen you can take the shuttles to the other resorts for dinner or to go to their beach during the day

Wife & I went to St. Lucia Sandals La Toc for our honeymoon. Before I went I thought it was cliche/trashy but wanted my wife to pick our honeymoon so off we went. I was blown away with how awesome it was to not worry about money (outside of expeditions) and how much I enjoyed the experience. It was like Disneyworld with how happy and accommodating the staff was.

FWIW, we went to all the Sandals locations to check out what they each offered. La Toc seemed the "youngest" crowd with events tailored around that/partying, Grand was a mix and Halycon was straight up for older/retiree folks.

Also, do "Joe Knows" Tour.

Go to sandals then go somewhere else. Then tell me if it's trashy. Your answer will be sandals in the affirmative.

Most people who say Sandals is trashy probably has never been or has a stick up their arse. They are not the greatest vacation but for the price, it is not a bad experience at all.

Your coworker is likely jealous and threw out trashy to throw you off the trail of something good. He doesn't know what he is talking about.

A lot of people feel if you're going to spend that sort of money to go on a real vacation, see the world, experience a different culture, historical place, etc. and not just to go to a glorified 30A where you just lay on a beach living in all inclusive gluttony.

Call me trashy, but I perfer the later.
