Do they not sell the massive crates of generic lego pieces anymore?

From what I've seen you either have to order them on the Internet or go to a Lego Store. We have one in Birmingham, or we did, I think it's still there. But at places like Target, Walmart, or Toys-R-Us, it's just the "kits" of specialized prices that make one specific toy.

OMG. In order to get that you have to go to a store or by it online? I'm not jumping through those hoops.

FYI, LEGO LAND is less than an hour away from Disney World. Definitely worth checking out when you are down that way.

The Space Shuttle/Crawler combo from the 90s is the GOAT Lego kit.

Legos are the best but I also loved green army men and Star Wars action figures.

But that's the problem. Back in the day a box of Legos was just a box of Legos. Today they were a fort, the next day those same pieces were a fleet of ships or whatever. The only limit to what you could build was your imagination. Now though they come in kits of parts made specific to build one toy and they even include instructions... I hate what they've done to Legos.

As I said, watch the Lego Movie. It completely addresses your complaint.

I heard great reviews about the movie....anything worth sharing?

It really completely dissects the concept of LEGOs and makes an incredibly strong case on it being the greatest toy of all time. It also shows what the toy really is about and what the creators of the toy want people to do with it. It is bar none the best movie made on a toy franchise of all time (excluding Toy Story of course, but that's more diverse).

ETA: Every LEGO fan deserves to go to the LEGO section of FAO Schwarz in NYC and the LEGO store in Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World.

Went to both, and nearly pissed myself. Think I was 8 both times, and that was basically heaven for me.

I took this picture at the Lego store in downtown Disney. Pretty much any shape and color Lego you could imagine.

I have yet to see the movie but it looks like it pretty much sums up what went on in our head as little kids playing with Legos.
