When you say stupid shite like this, you really need to take your own advice...

They hate the fact that just a few growers will get all the benefit. Wouldn't be shocked if it was some of the same people making money on it being illegal.

I'm actually one that doesn't care if it's legal. As something that stays in your system for a drug test, employers would never let me touch it anyway. But, I do think this points out that the entire country is not as pro-legalization as the polls show. I think recently a poll showed more than 50% of people supported legalization. I know this is one state, but I think it more accurately reflects the average American standpoint. Right or wrong, I just don't see many states outside of your stereotypical hippy/stoner zones making this vote easily. I don't think we are there no matter what polls you show me.

You are wrong. I am conservative and most of my friends are too. We all think it should be legalized. I don't know who does the polling but no one has contacted us.

The biggest issue for us is it isn't a key issue. I am not going to vote for a liberal because of that one issue. If a clean legalization bill ever goes to vote in LA it will pass.

I'm for legalization with one condition. Not one penny of government resources is used to treat any medical conditions related to being a pot head ever.

I feel the same way about smoking cigarettes too though.

Don't smoke pot then. I'd have a felony record if I robbed a bank so I don't.

LOL. I think he'll survive. Don't do illegal stuff.

I'm not saying never make it legal mind you. But if it's illegal, just skip it. It's not addictive so I don't see the problem with just skipping getting high.

Unfortunately government money is already used to treat people addicted to food, cigarettes, alcohol etc.

And even more unfortunate, your tax dollars are used to treat people who illegally use drugs. So not sure why you are so worried about that cost.

Just add more costs?

I'm saying you gotta draw a line somewhere. That's all.

If you get lung cancer from smoking weed now that we know it's a risk then don't expect the government to pay for that treatment.

It's a compromise.

What about all the pennies of government resources paid to police and prisons for marijuana? You are ok with that?

Is the government paying for it now? Yes. How is making it legal going to change how it is treated in hospitals?

Currently hospitals don't ask if your disease was caused by drugs and if so no we cannot do anything for you.

Will they still be paid pennies if it's made legal?

I'm saying legalize it but with no support of the government ever. In fact, I'd prefer it was a net positive for the government through taxing it. Use some of that money to teach about the ill affects of using hemp and to educate those that smoke that they are own if any medical treatment is needed in the future that related to the usage of the newly legal drug.

Again, I'm not against legalization. But,

quote:

I am conservative and most of my friends are too. We all think it should be legalized

this means absolutely nothing to anyone. I have no idea how old you and your friends are, but you are one demographic. Conservative 50 year olds won't necessarily share the same viewpoint as you.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be illegal. I think it's gaining traction. I just think some people are jumping the gun in believing that if it reaches a ballot, it will pass. I only think that's possible in a select few states at this time.

quote:

If a clean legalization bill ever goes to vote in LA it will pass

This will not happen for some time. In a majority of this state, you still cannot buy liquor on a Sunday! Again, I'm totally against stuff like that, but I'm not an idiot. We won't go from Bible-Belt-Baptist-Land to legalizing pot just because it passed in Colorado.
