I tried Paleo for a while. It is way too restrictive for me. I've gone to a gluten-free diet and try to eat as few carbs as possible. I get crazy heartburn, so going gluten-free has removed that altogether.

That is the main thing I don't quite understand. Why no beans? I thought for sure that green beans had to be healthy.
Kind of strange about no milk.
Other than those examples, the "diet" at its basic level seems great.
Not sure why so many tards always have to chime in with moronic responses everytime this subject comes up.

And potatoes are a super food. Low calorie, low fat, high in vitamins.

No beans: due to lectins and "anti-nutrients." Google if you want the long story. Basically, they aren't good for you. However, if you use traditional preparation methods (soaking cycles, sprouting, etc) then they are sort of neutral. Pretty controversial even amongst ancestral health folks.

My household has been essentially Paleo for two years, and it's not hard to follow at all. We don't lose weight, cause we don't need to.

IMO, most people who lose weight on paleo do so because they have trouble eating as many calories as they previously did (food tends to be more satiating with less calories).

We've seen a ton of benefits, from strength, recovery, sleep, stress, immunity, etc.

The biggest difference for me: I used to be the guy who HAD to have healthy snacks through the day, or I'd get ravenous and irritable. Now, I eat a large paleo meal with a bunch of protein, fat, and veggies, and I'm good for most of the day.

Paleo, Atkins, raw food, juice, blood-type, etc diets are called fad diets for a reason. Like most fads their adherents will cling to whatever minimally prepared research they can to justify their choice. The best "diet" means a lot of variety and moderation. Combine that with a little physical activity on a regular basis and that takes care of a lot of ills. Excluding grains, animal fats, sugars, meats, etc. on some study's suggestion ( most of you have no clue how poorly the majority of those studies are conducted) and not because of a specific condition or allergen is idiotic.

If you're just trying to lose weight just give up bread and try to eat as little potatoes and sugar as possible. That's what I've done and I'm down almost 15 pounds in a month.

I still drink 5-6 nights a week too but I'm pretty young.

I always love this argument against milk

What other species cooks their food? Seasons their food? Or the other thousands of things we do to our food that no other species do?

I've gone from 208 to 155 and I eat a potato every single day. I also eat brown rice and wheat grain.

IMO the best way to approach it is to take the 30 day intro approach. For 30 days, eliminate wheat, most grains, legumes, and dairy. After 30 days, reintroduce something one at a time. How do you feel, perform, sleep, etc?

For instance, if you eliminate and then re-try milk, and you are fine, then go ahead and have milk.

I reintroduced milk and now do raw cow and goat milk.

My eating habits are loosely based on the paleo diet. I look at the ingridents and if it has 5 or more ingridents in it, I don't eat it.

Please tell me what other species gives a sailing shite about its diet outside of eating enough of something to keep living?

It's not about losing weight. It's an approach to health using an ancestral model.

You can lose weight with a variety of approaches; the paleo diet aims to correct much more.
