Astroworld/waterworld in daytime, and astros / dogers with orel pitching that night. Went 21 innings.

That was a good day to be a kid.

I was at this game. It ended on a safe call at the plate. Scosia was so mad at that safe call that he threw a ball that one hopped the fence

Never went. We would always go to Arlington to six flags and wet-n-wild, now hurricane harbor. Do the parks for a few days and go see the Rangers play at night.

Speaking of the Rangers, the new ballpark is amazing. Can’t believe we would sit outside in the summer and sweat our asses off to see Nolan Ryan pitch. I’m getting soft in my old age.
Wouldn’t trade it for the world though

I grew up nearby and had season passes to both Wet 'N' Wild/Hurricane Harbor and Six Flags every summer when I was a kid. Usually we'd go to Wet 'N' Wild on Mondays and Fridays and Six Flags on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

When you have season passes to places like that every summer eventually you get bored and start finding things to do. Me and my sisters would use goggles to go to the bottom of slides where you hit the water hard to find money. We'd probably come up with an average of $40-$50 a day combined between all of us. The water was disgusting, however. You had to wade through some trash to get to the gold.

The last year I had a season pass was 2001 and it got revoked because me and my friends were 13 and got kicked out of the park too many times for shenanigans that 13 year olds do. For example we would get the free cups of ice water, go on Runaway Mountain(a ride in the dark) and throw the ice cold water on the other people in the train while going up the lift hill and they would have no idea where it came from.

I went to Six Flags a few weeks ago for the first time since 2009 and so many memories came back. The new Joker ride wasn't that great but I had a VIP pass which let me go through the exit of all the rides.

I liked that ride where you stuck to the wall while the floor fell out.

Looks a whole lot similar to the rides and offerings at King's Island (Cincinnati). Anyone been there that can compare? I know ownership also ran King's Dominion in Virginia so possibly also had a stake in this place. Regardless, great memories.

My uncle lived in Pearland so we’d go almost every summer. Was there the summer Batman opened. Man, I miss those days. Told my wife the other day that I wish our kids could have experienced that place.

“Does anyone remember the indoor theater type place where they had freezing AC cranking and you’d watch like a POV version of a euro car chase or something? I don’t think I made that up”

I think this was called Horizon 76. They would also have you riding a skateboard through traffic. The Barrel of Fun was the last ride I rode one trip and puked all the way back to LC. Good memories. Going to see the Oilers was a good time also.

Grased lightning and XLR8 were awesome as a kid. Wooden roller coasters suck especially the old ones. Backbreakers

Man what a nostalgia bomb this thread is… I was a 90s kid with parents on a budget but I didn’t know the difference. A trip to Astroworld and a game in the dome was like seeing the world to me lol. I can picture that place like it was yesterday. Makes me sad that it’s not there.

The Astrodome in the background....

When I was about 5, I went to see a baseball game at the Astrodome for the first time with my family. I was so amazed by it. It seemed massive to me with these multi-tiered seating and giant glass roof. It was an experience that I remember vividly and my first major league baseball game. I was certain that it could never be topped.

About 3 years later, I went to the Superdome for a Saints game with them. When we were driving up and the Superdome was clearly visible, my dad told me that the Astrodome could fit inside the Superdome easily. Except my initial impression of the Astrodome as a toddler was that it was absolutely massive, so I didn't believe his tale of the Superdome being larger than the Astrodome.

More recently, some friends and I went to a game at Reliant Stadium (now NRG) one evening. When we drove up Holly Hall, the sun was setting behind Reliant. I could barely make out the tiny Astrodome hidden in the silhouette of the massive new football stadium. When we walked past it, I was surprised at how small and run down it looked. It was really sad looking with its entrances blocked off and with all the mildew on the sides. It seemed as faded and diminished as my childhood memory of it.

What a nostalgia hit!

Astroworld
Absolutely. I'm an old fart now but still feel like a little kid when I walk into an amusement park. Growing up in Northwest Louisiana, Dallas was Six Flags, and Houston was Astroworld. I have so many memories of both. Nothing lasts forever, but it is cool when something so nostalgic can remain tangible.
