Many fond memories as a kid. Parents brought us kids twice. Packed ham sandwiches and would go eat lunch in the parking lot. We were not allowed to buy that expensive park food.

Yes, I had family in Houston and used to go visit for a couple of weeks every summer in the seventies. The Texas Cyclone was my favorite ride. I also saw the band Kansas there by chance. I remember it as being a whole lot of fun.

In the early 90s we would go twice every summer and stay at the Marriott (I think) with the pool on the roof. Can’t tell you how many times we would go watch the Batman show and have funnel cakes. My favorite roller coaster was the XLR-8, good times

My parents did the same thing with me and my brothers, just a different hotel, maybe the hilton?

God I miss my childhood.

80s and 90s were the best time to be a kid.

Mid 70's we did the same thing. My mother made ham, peanut butter, bologna, tuna salad, and egg salad sandwiches for us to eat. We didn't have enough money to eat out or the expensive food at the park and the Astrodome. It was either one game and eat out or two games and an extra day. We didn't know any better then and were as happy as could be. I even got my first Astros cap b/c we saved enough money.

Kids have too much today and don't appreciate how good they have it. But I still wouldn't have traded my childhood for anything else, great memories and times !

I rode the Cyclone after a Buffet concert at the Southern Star and proceeded to hurl on my shoulder causing my date to run off.

Did it not make money? Place was packed everytime we went

Issues with the new Texans stadium and I think Six Flags in general was in bad shape in the early 2000s.

As a little kid I remember being tall enough to ride the Cyclone.

Then few years later, I saw the commercial for the XLR-8 and couldn't wait to ride that. It was like flying, with no track below you.

My dad and I would stand in line for all those big coasters while my mom and brothers went do other shite.

Yep.

I rode the Texas Cyclone the summer it opened as a young whipper snapper. I remember seeing it on the drive up to the park, and expressed my doubts about it until my older brother called me a girl.

Probably the best amusement park ride of my life.

Use to always go. Remember hooking up with a babe there when I was 10 or 12 or something.

Yes they were. It was like a Oktoberfest hall with turkey legs RIGHT by Excalibur. There was a strip of carnival games across from the hall.

Awesome vacations as a kid! My dad and I would go to Astroworld during the day, then hit the Astros game that evening in the A/C of the dome, then go back to Astroworld after the game. They had the best bumper car track ever - you didn't have to go in the same direction- just get a running start and crack some poor unexpecting sap...probably why they ended up shutting it down.
