Nicely done

ETA: It's fairly easy to pickup. I took a couple years in highschool, then a couple semesters in college. When I got to Germany and started trying to speak it again it came back fairly quick. Had to because my landlady didn't speak a bit of English

Had a few years in high school and college but when we visited everyone knew English any way.

The US needs to do a better job teaching second languages earlier in school.

Mandarin will endear you more to your 21st century overlords.

Duolingo will teach you some basic vocabulary. Do that first.

Then there is a podcast called Coffee Break German that will teach you how to get around town, ask for directions, and useful conversations.

Once you understand those enough, grab the slow German podcasts where they read the news slowly to fine tune your understanding.

Use as many resources as you can. There are even apps that are just a game to guess the nouns gender.

It helps to find a buddy to learn with bc I've found that until you're actually conversational most people don't have the patience to teach you.

slow German podcasts

That's a great idea - you have any suggestions?

When I took Spanish in high school my teacher said to watch Univision. They spoke so damn fast I couldn't pick up a single word, except may be "y".

If there are "slow read" podcasts, that would be an excellent idea.

Yes, although my knowledge of it is pre-industrial and mostly religious

The one I have is Slow German mit Annik Rubens.

I feel like I know enough German to participate in a conversation but my pronunciation is terrible so no one knows what I'm talking about.

It helps a ton to actually say it out loud but it's gonna be weird when people hear you saying "sechs einfache Fahrt bitte"

Same. It pisses me off a little when I speak German and they reply back in English. Most German/Swiss/Austrians English is good enough I know they're not practicing with me.

I second listening to podcasts and YouTube videos and German TV shows. Deutschland 83 is a really good show.

The hardest part of learning German is the Genitive Case part of German Grammar.

Genitive Case = possessive form of objects.

Example: Die Tür des Autos. (The car door or "the car's door")

Why use "Fahrt" (trip) instead of "Weg" (path)?

Too literal of a translation.

I would have used the following:

Ich hab deine Freundin, Schwestern, und Mütter im Arscheloch gebumst. Deine Mütter ist eine Schreier.

Sie alle haben mein Schwanz am gernste.

I know a lot of Germans and they all speak great English. Probably better than most Americans.
