Currently learning it. I use Living Language and Duolingo. Living Language will run you about 30 bucks for 3 books and 9 CDs. It's better than Rosetta and cheaper, IMO.

I can crudely speak enough to get by (Lived in Heidelberg/Mannheim/Wiesbaden for 3+ years). My wife is from Germany and my son is being brought up speaking German and English. We use it everyday in the house.

It's a tough language to learn and even harder language to proficiently write in. Ideally you would immerse yourself in the country/culture. If you can't, Rosetta stone maybe?
