I started frequently waking up with headaches in college. Just sort of ignored it and attributed it to not getting enough sleep.
When I started working, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Now I only wake up with headaches from not wearing my mask or hangovers.

Is it where you like jerk up when sleeping?

It's most likely your sleeping ergonomics (posture). Do you sleep on your back, side or stomach?

Yes, had this happen tuesday night/wednesday morning. I get stress buildup in the shoulders/neck area that cause some nasty headaches. Muscle relaxers do the trick

It's possible that you are experiencing cluster headaches. They will wake you up from a dead sleep. It feels like an ice pick jabbing you behind the eye. They are a lot like an alarm clock...same time every night. They will usually last for about 2 hours. They may last for a few weeks then clear up for weeks or months and they'll start up again.
I just read the whole thread and saw that you had been diagnosed with cluster headaches. Have you tried taking sumatriptan or is the pain quick and fleeting?

I get really bad tension headaches, sometimes they can last for days and are painful as all hell, however, I have never had one wake me up and they are never acute or localized pain it is a dull broad pain, never like an ice pick.

Look up the wiki article on cluster headaches. I suffer from them, this sounds exactly like them. Are they always on the same side of your head? Near the temple and behind the eye? Gone completely in under an hour? Start about an hour after falling asleep?
