One time on a cruise (trashy, I know). We stayed at the port and drank. Some of my group didn't want to venture inland because there was a sign at the exit/entrance gate that required everyone who was entering from the town to "check their gun" at the gate.

ETA: We docked at Belize City.

I spent a week down there back in HS

it was fricking awesome. Belize city is meh but I spent a few nights in the jungle then the rest of the time on one of those islands you have to catch a flight too and you can only drive golf carts on.

I really want to go back.

Cave tubing was amazing. Towards the end you'll see wildlife staring you down

Go wear yourself out in the day and get back on the boat and pregame for dinner.

Went diving once and it was OK. All of the other ports were better diving.

The ship tenders, so it cuts into your port time.

I've got an 11 year old and wanted to do something with him, so we went cave tubing with cavetubing.bz and they were great. Booked them independant of the ship, and it was half price. We both went for 100 bucks and it included lunch. They also have ziplining.

Check out cruisecritic.com. They have great reviews for all of the ports.

If you're into it, the Mayan Ruins at Xunantunich are amazing...

the four wheeling/tubing/zip lining stuff dosn't start too early because they have to give people staying out on the cays time to get in, and definitely book independently

Rode thru this shite hole on our way to Cave tubing. Armed gunmen outside of banks and gov't buildings. The jungle was awesome. But, one of the buses from our cruise got in an accident on the way to cave tubing (not our bus). Delayed for hours. They missed the excursion. Military showed up. The roads are not painted and people drive with reckless abandon.

Would not go back there.

If you see the Mayan ruins, you'll spend more time traveling there than you actually spend there. But it is beautiful.

Our favorite excursion was the cave tubing. Our only regret was going to the zoo rather than zip lining. So if you have the option of adding on an activity with this excusion, don't pick the zoo.

Belize was wonderful. We stayed on Ambergris Caye right outside the town for 9 days. I can't wait to go back.

You need to check on the water levels during the summer as well. At certain times of the year, there's not much floating in your tube. More dragging your tube.

Belize is known for its amazing snorkeling. However, the reef we snorkeled was shallow enough to stand.

I was there two thanksgivings ago on a cruise, did a zip-line thur the cliffs in rainforest. That was fun, the city is a poor and I doubt you would want to do much there. Upside they speak English.
