Flourishment, enlightenment, and then dark ages.

Many ancient Romans said the same thing.
We saw how that went, it ushered in the dark ages.
This might not be the end of the world, but with the rampant stupidity, extreme government dependence, and uprising running through cities, we are probably at the threshold of another dark ages.
You have a point. This is a generation that worships celebrities, living past their means, and openly embraces ignorance.
we doomed

Because history is cyclical and we never learn from out mistakes as a species.
We had a worldwide period of enlightenment and prosperity. We are due a period of depression and darkness because we squandered our prosperity.

Short answer: No.
Long answer: No.

This is why i try to stay educated and armed. I'll be part of the ruling class that takes over with an iron fist one way or the other. Adviser or Soldier.

People shouldn't go thru life with a generalized sense of anxiety about things they have no control over. Life's too short. Enjoy it while you can.

I agree. Who's anxious? I'm prepared.

We have to be getting close, right?
I have my guns, some spam, the bible, the Torah, the Quran, booze, a woman and a dog. I'm ready.
ETA:
maybe video games have been preparing the next generation.
FPS has taught me all kinds of skills i need.
Fast loading mags
the importance of diversifying my armory
how to work together
how to kill my teammates when needed
Perhaps, we were born for this.
It's time to turn off the 24 hour news

Bro, the bubonic plague killed like 100-200 million people in the 1300s, like 1/5th of the world's population. This is small potatoes.

Every generation in human history has said/asked this for the same reasons you list.
I guess someone will be right eventually.

No shite.
Violent crimes. It's a fraction of what it used to be in the U.S. We live in a safer society than ever.
War. The period from 1914-1945 saw the deaths of close to 100 million people from 2 world wars alone... That number does not include things like the Spanish flu, or other inter-war conflicts. Europe had been in a perpetual state of warfare, basically forever, until 1945.
Disease Vaccinations save literally billions of lives nowadays.
Societal unrest Go back to the 60's if you want to learn about real rioting and revolution.
Natural disasters Check out the 1900 Galveston hurricane or countless other disasters in time.

Since you have your Bible, go read the Old Testament. Some very bad stuff going down back then.

Potential end of everything scenarios:
1 - One of the 7 Super Volcanoes cuts loose.
2 - Massive earthquake sets off chain event. Africa bumps into Florida and slides on top of Colorado before it stops.
3 - Big (half mile wide) asteroid hits anywhere.
4 - Never seen before Chicken Influenza virus jumps to humans
5 - One of several other animal illnesses jumping to mankind
6 - Terrorist atomic bomb set off in your neighborhood.
7 - President Putin pushes the WWIII button by intention or mistake.
8 - Some idiot starts a war with Israel, who won't take destruction of their country from anyone
9 - Top secret defense lab loses control of their bacteria/virus/chemical/bomb/particle physics experiment.
10 - Your cousin (Bubba Jimmy) pops a 45 slug from your gun into you when he "was just looking at your piece and had no idea it was loaded"
11 - Next year's Ebola outbreak really is worse than they thought it would be due to an unsuspected mutation.
12 - Muslim population in US reaches critical mass and we learn their true intention.
