Irrelevant. As an immigrant, that is their duty to the host nation which accepts them. If they are unable to assimilate, they shouldn't be allowed to stay. Pretty simple concept.

I'm not claiming to be an expert, I just would rather my country try to help people who are facing certain death instead of locking up the borders and telling them to figure it out on their own.

I think that's where they need to do a better job of assimilating the refugees. Start them on the road to being tax paying citizens of your country or other countries who are willing to take some people in. It's tough because so many southern European countries have shitty economies.

Yeah, why even bother? Let's just let hundreds of thousands of children die instead.

Assimilating isn't just paying taxes. It is the act of taking the host nation's language and characteristics and making them your own. You retain your background, but expand your worldview to include that of the area you have moved to.

Bundesliga (German soccer) teams are pledging to help, for example Bayern Munich

quote:

FC Bayern via its youth section plans to establish a “Training camp” for refugees over the coming weeks. Municipal authorities will assume essential organisational tasks. Kids and youths will train at FC Bayern at intervals to be determined later, take German classes, and be provided with meals and football kit.FC Bayern München AG will additionally donate €1 million from a friendly match to refugee support projects. The projects will be selected after liaison with Bavarian interior minister Joachim Herrmann and Mayor of Munich Dieter Reiter. At the club’s next match against FC Augsburg on 12 September, our players will be escorted onto the Allianz Arena pitch hand-in-hand with a German child and a refugee child as a mark of support for the integration of refugees.

Sounds like a fairly solid assimilation plan to me if other clubs agree to execute something similar.

I would have hoped for a little more rational thought from you

How long do you give someone to fully assimilate?

How easy or hard the concept is is irrelevant.

The purpose of the migrant is assimilation. That is part of the "fee" they are supposed to give back to the nation which accepted them.

You are placing all responsibility on the host nation itself. The responsibility rests with the immigrant.

As I said before, if they are unable to assimilate successfully, they should not be permitted to stay.

Taking them in at that pace isn't sustainable. It will collapse their economies even further.

What everyone can do is give to charities that help with the crisis. Give until it hurts if you want.

I give to charities here that serve our people. I understand that I can't give to all charities and still make an impact.

The world has limited resources. Sadly these people are feeling the effects of that. I'm not going to be made to feel guilty though. I have empathy for them and their struggles and wish them all the best.

5 years max.

And during that time, they receive minimal welfare, if any, and must register with the local LE agency.

Mesut Ozil is a famous German soccer player 3rd generation immigrant from Turkey and apparently speaks very poor German.

Let's not be naive about it. The current western and northern Europeans are a complacent, toothless group, so I doubt they do enough to make the hard choices.

the article is in German but the translation is good enough if you have Chrome. Every club is doing something to get local refugee children more involved in their community. It's not going to happen overnight but it'll eventually take hold if every one is committed to helping.

That's reasonable

and maybe they should have to reach certain goal requirements each year

Why don't we give them an AR and a case of bullets so they can go retake their homeland from the barbarians that have taken it over?

That's exactly what happens. The world is a cruel and heartless place.
Been happening since day one. Just because some SJWs make a meme about it doesn't change reality.

You can't save everyone. Better to start at home.

By the end of 5 years, they should have a firm grasp of the host language, have held a job for at least 70% of that time, and remained a law-abiding citizen. Felonies are instant deportation. No questions asked.

They are also followed closely by the local LE agency.

5 years is long enough.

Scruffy lives in reality and will not sugarcoat proper courses of action to avoid feelings or to avoid offending others.
