Their customer support was great until ATT bought them out. The only way to reach the old DTV employees is to have your call escalated to the call center in Las Vegas. I do this every time and that’s the only way to get things properly handled.

I got rid of Direct TV a couple years ago..It was a nightmare to close out the account. Lies upon lies and I threaten to sue them (LOL). It took about 3 months to get my money back that they deducted from my checking account w/o my approval.
My neighbor is having Cox installed it has been a couple of weeks of them coming back to fix what the last guy screwed up..it's ridiculous that these guys can't get their shite straight.

Was a great company until ATT bought them.

They have become shite since AT&T acquired them. A nightmare series of passing the buck and transferring you to endless departments and dead ends and never getting anything done. Before AT&T bought them you never heard of this

They suck. And I am about to get rid of them.

I had direct TV.
No problems. Years ago.
Everything changes.
Brief summary of gotoma (the Buddha) on the topic :
Things arise in an instant and then likewise are gone.
You go with that flow and you are free. Else suffer.
It looks like I got out before the att merger.
I tried att once. They couldn't deliver and I got someone who could while they were out at the street corner scratching their butt.

I hate those frickers with a passion.
I have kept at least 20 people I know from getting caught up with their stupidity.
Here is what these assholes did to me:
I had a service plan and contract with them tied to other shite (think it was a cell phone deal or something).
Anyway, I sold my home and had to move to a nice rental house for about a year while we looked for a home to buy.
I got all the information needed for DTV to be installed at my new location, including the written permission from the renter.
DTV gets to the new home, and establishes on their own that they cannot install the service there. Something with the lines, the ability for the roof set up to catch signal, etc.
Nothing to do with me, the renter, the house, etc.
Ok, well, I would like to continue my service when I move then, so what do we do?
Well, the fine folks at DTV let me know that we couldn't just hold the account for the year. So, we would have to cancel service and start a new agreement later. By this point, I had also more than covered my end of the original contract. All good, right?
Wrong.
The fine frickers at DTV KEPT MY $500 deposit because THEY couldn't install the new service at my rental. The idiot on the phone gave me the worst reason ever, so I asked for a manager.
A "manager" got on the call and basically said "yeah, we are keeping your money because we couldn't install it there".
My response was "so basically, you are admitting to me you are fricking me raw out of $500". (I was obviously pissed by this point).
DTV guy, "Sir, this call is being recorded. I can't say that directly".
I reported it to the BBB and I was told there were steps I could take, but between the move, life changes, etc, it wasn't worth the fight.
I'll never do business with those theives again. Shitty TV service and shitty customer service. Then they frick you again in the end.

YoutubeTV for the win.

They were purchased by AT&T, right? AT&T has always had shite customer service.
Posted on 5/11/19 at 11:30 am to SippyCup
With ATT/DirecTV, I never call customer service. It is so much less of a headache to use the live chat feature. The wait is usually under 5 minutes to get to someone, the language barrier is gone (thanks to spell check), and the overall time is much shorter. It can also be used on mobile service if your internet is out. I tell everyone who may have the misfortune of dealing with those people to use the live chat.
