Any Lexus GX owners? Thoughts?

In South America I drove a Toyota Fortuner and really enjoyed it a lot. They don't sell that model here but they do sell it as a Lexus GX.
I'm looking for something that's almost a Land Cruiser but a little less known and cheaper. I would get one with 100k miles or so.
I want an overlanding vehicle for drives out west and south of the border.
Was looking at Land Cruisers but I like this size and diving ability.
Plus maintenance on toyotas is pretty easy.

How old are you willing to go?
100 Series LXs and LCs are tGOAT. Same year GXs are pretty damn solid, too.

Lease return GXs are basically a cheat mode. They’re slow and get shitty fuel mileage but they’re legit off-roaders and indestructible.

What is a GX?
Anybody ever driven a Crown?
I hear they are discontinuing the Avalon and that will be the replacement in the US

I’m intrigued by the 2024 models, Overtrail+ looks to be a beast

Have a 2016 and love it. Bought with just over 100k. They are capable out of the box. If you come to terms that they get horrible gas mileage but are tanks, you will love it as well
I will have a redesigned GX in 2026 or so when someone else takes the depreciation hit.

What I'm looking at. A friend of mine is a manager at a Toyota dealership I have him looking.

I'm not worried about mileage. I can live with teen mpgs.
The ones I've looked at other than seat wear they hold up well.
Going to sell my Tacoma and my other suv and just get this. So it needs to replace my Tacoma and my Ford Escape.

They are legit tanks.
Prepare for best case 16mpg in said tank.
They only run on premium fuel.
Buy one and don’t look back.

Replaced our full size chevy truck with one. Lease return 2016 GX460 we bought in 2019. V8/4wd. Went to get a 4runner but this was same price but a couple years older. Regret nothing.

My wife has one we bought new and it’s a tank. I honestly feel like we could run it to 300k.

The 80-series is far more capable and generally more durable. The 100-series just has a better motor (4.7 V8 vs 4.5 I6).
As for the GX, it's a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in most markets. Excellent vehicle. Mrs. Tantal and Mr. Tantal Sr. both drive them and love them. Don't let the luxury fool you. They're off-road beasts with a little lift and the right suspension and tire setups.

A vehicle that is in my short list when I get a new daily. I know a few folks that have some high mile ones and some low miles. No issues.

You want an 80 series or 100 series LC or LX then.

I have one and I love it. It drives beautifully and feels incredibly solid.

100 series if you want the motor to go 500K. 80 series if you want to abuse it without the suspension breaking. There's no substitute for a solid front axle and triple lockers.

GX 460 or 100 series Landcruiser are very similar and extremely good vehicles.
I had a 1998 100 series Cruiser that I sold last year (23 yrs of ownership) with 359K on it, and it was running well, but needed new seats. A family member has had 2 GX's with similarly good and reliable experiences.
Selling 2 other vehicles to get this one is an intelligent purchase that you will not regret.
