Most luxury cars drop in value at a more exponential rate than non-luxury

I have a 2010 X5 35d, diesel power FTW!!!
I love it, it's been a great vehicle, fun to drive and handles pretty well for an SUV. It does a really good job of pulling my boat too.
I had a Tundra with the 5.7l prior and that thing was a beast. The X5 doesn't pull as well but it holds it's own, especially for a 6 cylinder.
Boat with trailer weighs 3700lbs dry btw.

For 30k, you could buy a 2011 Acura MDX. Great car, all wheel drive, very sporty, very reliable.

Never owned one, but I like 'em.

They had a problem w/ head bolts and gaskets, but that was awhile back.

Would not own out of warranty, but that's true of any German marque.

The E53 (first gen) X5 30i could be had with a manual. I'm constantly searching for one.

Loved it when it was under warranty, fun to drive, descent looking crossover type suv.

Hated it when it was out of warranty. The smallest repairs cost a shite ton and seemed to happen very frequently. Now with that being said, it had issues under warranty but they fixed it and gave you a loaner car to use so it wasn't a big deal.

Conclusion.. Never own a BMW out of warranty.

I looked at one last year when I was looking for a new ride. The X5 was on top of my list with the Acura MDX at number 2.

The X5 drove amazingly and was really roomy and comfortable. The problem was the maintenance out of warranty like mentioned. I looked at one that had a headlight light on the dash and after doing research on it, it was about a $4k fix. It also bothered me that a spare tire is an option and you can't get a third row with the spare tire.

Doesn't the X5 have run flats?

One of those choices is an suv...the other is a car with an SUV body.

Between a 4runner and bmw...there is no choice to make. The 4runner will never leave you stranded and still be worth a lot when you sll.

You can get a gx470 in your price range if you drop back one more year...hell I looked at getting an 11 over tge summer that was 26k.

Ever had a run flat repaired or had to replace one? They are stupid expensive to deal with when you can have a spare tire. Australia has a really good looking rear mounted tire holder for the X5.

You can't get one in the states though.

I've had run flats for years, they are standard on most Corvette's.

I much prefer them on wife's and daughter's vehicles. Never have to worry about them being stranded.

They aren't that much more than regular tires. They have drawbacks, but none have to do with cost.

Have a BMW and like they said oil changes can run $100 plus and don't get me started on the run flat tires. Just had to replace mine and they were over $1,300 for a set of 4. BMW's are fun to drive but the maintenance costs can get ugly.

High performance tires are expensive. I was paying almost a $1000 a set for V rated tires on a Thunderbird SuperCoupe.
In 1991.
