Anti-Dentites, what's the truth behind the "Deep Cleaning" scam?

Went to a new dentist and they made me stand in front of this newfangled machine, in 10 seconds they determine that I look to have some bone loss and will need a deep cleaning.... never even looked in my mouth before they made that determination. what kind of bull malarkey is that?

this seems to be the latest money generating scam, at least for the dentists in my area, I had to cal BS on it when they tried to get me on their "program"

I go to the dentist about once every 3-4 years. Never had a cavity. You baws just need to brush and floss more

The girl who came and got me from the waiting area was the one who "x-rayed" and determined the deep cleaning before siting me in the chair to "confirm" her assumptions. And then said she can't do a regular cleaning, I must have the deep cleaning. So I walked.
Big facility, has like 5 receptionists.

did they take an xray? if it was an xray then they would be able to see bone loss/problems much better than just looking in your mouth
as if you didn't hate medicine enough already....

that's me, I only went recently to temporarily silence the nagging,couldn't tell you the last time I had a cavity, the hygienist gets out her little pick and probes around every tooth and writes her measurements down, then approaches me as if she's about to tell me I have terminal cancer and the only hope is this rigorous frequent deep cleaning program, I started to tell her that I'd heard the same spiel 30 years ago and my gums are just fine, but she had the nicest tits so I signed up, what could I do?

Have gone to the dentist every 6 months for 40 years, and are a flossing fanatic, had to change dentists and the new hygienist at the new office gave me the deep cleaning speech, I left and found another dentist.

I imagine if they look hard enough in anyone's mouth they'll find some reason to bill you more. This sounds like their version of a full body scan.

I'm not a dentist, but if you had calcified plaque under the gum line, the only way to visualize it would be by their so-called "newfangled machine". It would not be visible on clinical exam

A few years ago I went to new dentists at a national chain. A "specialist" came in during the exam to test my gums. Determined that my gums were infected, and that I would need a special treatment not covered by insurance to wash my tooth gum interface with antibiotics.
They had all kids of promotional pamphlets in the waiting room for this proprietary $1500 miracle procedure.
