It's intriguing that so many people want to move where it's blistering hot for most of the year.

I've lived here since February. This Summer didn't feel as hot as Baton Rouge, way less humid.

I love living here. The strangest thing is how nice the service workers are at the grocery store and such. I thought people we're being sarcastically nice to me when I first moved here when they asked how my day was, I'm used to Baton Rouge cashiers ignoring me completely.

MF'ing This. This is going to be what I miss the most. There's nothing like pulling into a Louisiana drive-thru, placing my order and hearing "ya orduh' be re-ee.. pul yo arse uh'rown"

People are just happier there.

Yep.

It's also not as cool as everyone in this thread seems to think it is. This city is turning into a mini-California with the quickness

Anybody who moves to Austin without knowing it is a LIBERAL island in a massive conservative state is either deluded or did not do research.

It has been this way for 2-3 decades. First place I ever saw a Rolling Rock Beer, Sam Adams, 2 Lesbians kissing openly. That was 20+ years ago.

ALWAYS been liberal.

The amounts that we call "skyrocketing" are probably nothing to Californians.

Love the city. Food. Music. Beer. Dirty sixth is STILL dirty, but everything around it is beautiful.

i love Austin as much as the next guy, but its losing its charm with as big as its getting. The Traffic is unreal and with the hills they are limited to what they can build

it wont be long and San Antonio to Austin will just be one megaplex

When my ties to this shittown all eventually get severed I will definitely be moving there. My kind of place.

But would y'all move there? I'm particularly interested because I have multiple job offers in the area. I have offers in a couple different areas of the country though so my choices aren't really limited

its a great place to live. plenty of good burbs to settle down if you have a family that are still within 30-40 minutes to downtown.

Glad I got to experience it before the "Austin vibe" was corporatized and packaged, and now waits in a 5 hour line for a plate of BBQ.

Among the country's 50 largest cities, Nashville ranked second last year for the highest percentage increase in murders, according to findings released earlier this year by the FBI and the Washington Post. Nashville's criminal homicide rate rose 83 percent

quote:

The overall crime rate in Nashville is 66% higher than the national average. For every 100,000 people, there are 13.02 daily crimes that occur in Nashville. Nashville is safer than 3% of the cities in the United States.

For Nashville, we found that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation, across communities of all sizes (both large and small). Violent offenses tracked included rape, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, including assault with a deadly weapon.
