A man looking for frisbees in a Florida lake was found dead on Tuesday with his arm torn off in an incident that investigators believe was a possible alligator attack, police said.
The identity of the 47-year-old man has not been released, the Largo police department and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said in a statement, per NBC News. The outlet reported that his body was found at Taylor lake in John S. Taylor Park.
"At this time, detectives believe the victim was looking for frisbees in the water and a gator was involved," Largo police said, according to the outlet. "There are posted signs of no swimming in the lake."
According to several reports, the man had been searching for the frisbees to sell them.
Paul Cozzie, the director of parks and conservation resources in Pinellas County, told The New York Times that the man was a "transient" who made a living selling the sporting items to people playing on a disc golf course near the lake.

Discs, not frisbees. Frisbee is a registered trademark.

Disc golf is a disc-based sport in which players pitch a disc toward a goal while adhering to golf-like rules. Polypropylene plastic, also known as polypropene, is a thermoplastic polymer resin used in a wide range of applications, including disc golf discs. A variety of other plastic kinds are also used to make discs, which are heated and molded into individual discs. The game is commonly played on a 9- or 18-hole course. A hole is completed by throwing a disc from a tee pad or area toward a basket, then throwing again from where the previous throw landed until the basket is achieved. The number of throws a player takes to reach each basket is usually counted (typically in proportion to par), and players try to complete each hole with the fewest total throws possible.
A flying disc (also known as a Frisbee or just a disc) is a gliding toy or athletic object that is typically constructed of injection-molded plastic and measures approximately 8 to 10 inches (20 to 25 cm) in diameter with a prominent lip. It's used for throwing and catching in flying disc games, both recreationally and competitively. When compared to a flat plate, the disc's shape is an airfoil in cross-section, which allows it to fly by lowering drag and increasing lift as it moves through the air. The disc spins, imparting a stabilizing gyroscopic force that allows it to be both accurately directed and hurled for distance.
WHAT ARE THE BASIC DIFFERENCES?
A frisbee is a flying disc that is traditionally used to play catch with another person. Human hands are not intended to catch a golf disc. The phrase "frisbee" is a trademarked term owned by the Wham-O business And it's been that way for a long time. Overtime frisbee, on the other hand, has been a phrase used to any flying disc. People frequently refer to disc golf as frisbee golf.
Most disc golfers aren't bothered by this nomenclature, but some are adamant about exclusively playing disc golf. This is because frisbee is typically associated with a backyard activity enjoyed by children. Disc golf, while still a young actor, has surged in popularity in recent years as a full-fledged sport, with an increasing number of players making the switch to full-time participation. Even outside of their tournament winnings, some players have been able to secure significant sponsorship.
Frisbees and disc golf discs are two very different things. While they have certain similarities and fly similarly, these two-disc types are vastly different in many aspects. In this article, we'll go through the most significant differences between the two below. So, let's start:
FRISBEES VS. DISC GOLF DISCS:
1. Size
When comparing a frisbee to a disc golf disc, the size of each is the first thing you'll notice. Golf discs are compact and solid, measuring approximately 8 inches in length. Frisbees are significantly larger, around 12 inches long, and made of a much lighter plastic.
2. Shape
You can identify the difference in shape between a golf disc and a frisbee by simply looking at them. Frisbees have a circular lip around the disc. It's rather noticeable, and it causes the disc to fly considerably differently from a disc golf disc.
Disc golf discs are much more streamlined, with some (drivers) practically coming to a point at the outside lip. The outside lip of mid-range discs and putters will get more rounded as you progress. Putters resemble frisbees in appearance, but they are still engineered to fly faster and farther.
3. Drag
A disc's drag is essentially air resistance, or air friction, against an item in flight. When a flying item encounters drag, it slows down. Frisbees and disc golf discs both fly similarly, however disc golf discs have less drag than frisbees due to their size, shape, and aerodynamics. This allows them to travel further.
4. Aerodynamics
The term "aerodynamic" refers to a shape that lowers the drag of air passing by an object. The faster and farther anything can fly, the more aerodynamic it is. In disc golf, this is why drivers, mid-range discs, and putters differ. They all have distinct shapes that help or hinder them depending on the aerodynamics principle.
Disc golf putters are much slower than drivers, although they have a comparable form to conventional frisbees. However, simply comparing the frisbee and the disc golf putter reveals that the putter is more aerodynamically sound and will fly far farther.
5. Speed
Frisbees and disc golf discs travel at significantly different speeds. Frisbees are slow-moving objects. While frisbees can be cranked up to fly very quickly, they still pale in comparison to disc golf discs. Golf discs are made to fly extremely quickly and far. It's just the way they are. Until Ultimate Frisbee, the frisbee was primarily used for recreational purposes, such as passing it from person to person. As a result, they weren't designed to travel at breakneck speeds.
In 1964, the advent of the disc golf disc revolutionized the game of frisbees and discs. These discs were designed to go a long distance, from a tee pad to a basket. The speed of disc golf discs is a key element of what distinguishes it from other sports.
6. Distance
The distance a disc golf disc can go distinguishes it even further from a frisbee. Frisbees are made for precision rather than distance. Disc golf discs are substantially smaller in size and are designed to cut through the wind, as we saw with the first two bullets, "size" and "shape." Because of the significant distance between most teepads and the basket goal you're throwing at, they're intended to fly as far as possible.
As a result, disc golf discs go a long distance. Frisbees, on the other hand, do not

mostly peaceful search and find.

Is the second-hand frisbee market really so hot these days that a person would be willing to risk life and limb for them?

Alligator my arse, it was Pennywise.

If so, why are there so many frisbees in this particular lake?
I imagine the same reason there are alot of golf balls in lakes on golf courses.
And the article I read said they went for 5 to 10 bucks and they would sometimes find 40.
So, that's pretty profitable for a homeless dude.

Some discs are extraordinarily collectible; fetching thousands

Florida really needs to step up their game with gator control… you can only harvest 1 per season…
I stand corrected, it’s 2….

1 each year. Over 7,300 alligator harvest permits are available this season. Each permit allows the harvest of two alligators.
