The square pizzas we had in high school were fricking delicious. I used to eat 3-4 of them.

After dimwit Bobby Jindal gave thousands of them a free pass to private schools it's the least we can do for those left behind in those crappy schools of East Baton Rouge. Yeah, your football teams suck, too.

I believe 60% were receiving free lunch before this.

Idk how I feel ab this since this was a step to make it free to those that could afford it.

I did some quick math last night and it was 450 a year per kid; so almost 19 mil a year total. (I was drinking so maybe that's wrong) Just for Ebr. It's a federal program. Ebr is just 1 school system....

What's going to happen when the working people can't support all the non working people anymore?

I feel like a vaguely remember kids with reduced priced lunches and kids with free lunches, but I went to Catholic school so I'm wondering how that worked

Also those rolls were top notch. We used to try and bribe the lunch lady for extra ones. We would also steal a bag of chocolate milk by hiding it under the tray right before checkout.

i have no problem with this social program funded by us,the tax payers.
This is one of the few i really have no issues with. Removing the social stigma of being a "free and reduced" kid is ok by me. Kids have absolutely no sayso about what their parents choose to provide them with.
Mom and dad smoke, drink, party but don't feel like spending their fun money on the kid because they know the taxpayers will pick up the tab.
Why should the kid be subjected to this?

Same thing that has always happened when people stop paying tribute.

Because.

Where do you think the money is coming from to pay for kids lunches who's parents can afford it? Doesn't that seem like frivolous spending by a nation that's in debt?

Thanks Obama!!!

If we're giving handouts, it should be to the biggest corporations, CEOs and Wall Street bankers only. Simple: eliminate all taxes and regulations on the wealthy, but raise taxes on the poor and end all welfare and social programs. WE CAN'T AFFORD IT!

Let the wealth trickle down, stop penalizing it! It's time we start penalizing the poor, they've had it too easy for too long.

that is because there aren't. look how fat we are as a country...a very small percentage of children are hungry. I would say of those that are it is more due to child abuse/neglect than availability to get food.

The biggest problem I have with this is the generally questionable healthiness of your typical school lunch. But yeah, if we're going to complain about freebies and the entitlement society we've created, free lunch for kids who are attending should be at the bottom of the list IMO.

I worked at a high school in EBR for a year. During lunch, the cafeteria was nearly empty everyday. Most of the kids there had free lunch, but they chose to go buy a drink and chips from the concession stand.
