The vast majority of people I come into contact with daily are hard-working people. Many with lofty goals and bright futures. Sure, there’s a couple of bums at the traffic light near I-290,45,etc., but this blanket assertion that everyone’s perspective is fricked is inaccurate.

Now, that said, I live in Texas......

People take a more balanced view of the US outside the Deep South, whereas here many people still seem to subscribe to the 50’s propaganda idealism of this country that was never really true.

Agree, and would add that small towns, no matter their geographic locations, tend to exhibit more visual patriotic displays.
