I'll take what I can get haha. Apparently the condition of the fillaments can definitely indicate whether the light was on or not, whether the cop actually saw anything who knows, but yea I get the cop was doing me a solid and was taking my word over his.

In a sane world you wouldn't have any shared liability. How are you supposed to be legally responsible for someone not making himself visible in the dark?

It's been my experience that it's going to come down to what the police officer says about who's at fault whether you are at fault or not.

this is one of those things where a dash cam would help out. I see cars all the time with non functional brake lights and wonder what would happen if they are rear ended.

who's at fault. Here, the apostrophe indicates a contraction of "who is".

It's "who's."

Who's is a contraction of who is or who has, and whose is a possessive pronoun

How long after they are turned off do filaments in a bulb stay 'hot'? Car lights may be awhile? Could honestly be something an experienced cop knows? I mean I could see the filaments glowing hot for a good ten minutes or more after use possibly?

Could also be a load a BS I don't know. I may have to check it out myself today.

They teach it in crash investigation.

They don't look to see if they are hot...they look to see how the filament reacted when it was broken.

You get different reactions whether the light was on or off.

If it's an actual light bulb and it was on when the crash cracked the bulb, it absolutely would be easily detectable. The filament would be burnt. Preventing the bulb's filament from burning is the whole reason there's a vacuum. If the bulb was lit and exposed to oxygen, the filament would look like a burned filament. If it wasn't lit and exposed to oxygen, the filament would look like a filament.

If the headlights were LED or HID, then there is no filament.

Because it is obvious that you have no clue what you're talking about. You have 0 legal experience; yet, you are giving this guy advice based on a similar situation that happened to you.
