Yea there was a bad batch of heroin going around and killed lots of people. Phillip Seymour Hoffman and those two former Navy Seals in Africa for example.
It's not something to play with and let go on for 6 months but I also understand why the OP did that. It's got to be hard to come to the point OP has and deal with it for so many reasons. Best of luck.

I was once told if you do heroin once, you are addicted, period! Although many people can walk away and not do it again, their body will always have some sort of addiction to it.
Is the military an option? He HAS to get away from the people he associates with.

I don't know about the military as to whether they would take him with this history, after he cleans up of course. I have thought about it. Does anybody know about this?

I would suggest to stay away from Methadone.
It just trades the high. I know people who go to the clinic so they think they are cured, but really they are now methadone junkies. There is this suboxoyne stuff too, but now I'm getting old and don't know as much about the newer manmade drugs.

I was in your kids shoes 7 years ago. I was on everything imaginable, opiate wise..Methadone, OC's, heroin, you name it..I loved it..My parents sent me to countless number of rehab's. They never worked, i always relapsed. But on september 15, 2007, i had finally realized that i was tired of waiting on a phone call, because thats all you do everyday. Is wait on a phone call to go get or deliver for other drugs. Addiction is faceless, and raceless. It doesnt care who you are or what you do..It can trap you before you even realize whats happening. Im saddened to say that if you are forcing your child to go to rehab, he wont quit. Even though he will tell you he agrees to go. He is just doing it to get you off his back. He will not stop until he comes to you and says i want to stop, i want to change..Then and only then will he quit. When HE wants to. Until then, its gonna get worse before it gets better. If you have anymore questions, id be glad to help. I always go out of my way to help a fellow addict who is in dire straights and needs help. But please dont be an enabler, have tough love. Help him if he wants to be helped. But no matter what he says, when he gets out of the rehab, never EVER give him money. If he wants to do something, go with him. Its all up to him now though. The ball is in his court.

this is just so not true. It's an opiod. It feels like taking a pain pill or anything like that, but just much stronger and a much shorter duration.
I don't know about shooting it. I always looked down on people who shoot up stuff and would never consider it. But as far as snorting it, it has almost the same feeling as oxy or roxy that many people here have tried.
Also, admittingly I am naive to addiction. I simply think it's all a mental thing. But then again I am addicted to coke so it does happen (Coke Zero, not Cocaine)
I know when I do something that feels really good, that I should not do it again for a long while.

Unless he's been arrested for it they won't know. Some branches have stricter eligibility requirements than others. And the military is downsizing so they're even pickier right now.

Caught him stealing valuables. Shite hit the fan. Fast forward 3 days and we dropped him off at Palmetto yesterday. Thanks everybody for your input and words of support. Please pray for his recovery. Insurance doesn't want to pay. Loath them. The funny thing about insurance is that for the past 22 years I have worked for a group of doctors who have been providing me and my family with free medical care. Insurance has failed to notice that though. God, I hate insurance.

Sorry about the insurance but just know that no matter what the cost is you at best are saving his life and at worst you are showing him how much you care and that you love him and are willing to do anything for him. I have had no experience with rehab or anything like it so I don't know if it works but I do know that feeling loved and cared about is something an addict needs if they want to stop.

He has got to sweat it out. It's hell.
But the hell of continuous dope - trading is worse.
Unfortunately, it will need to be in check down the road. After first "sweats" end there will be a period of clarity. The game is never over, unfortunately. Needs constant maintenance.

True, but every step you take in treatment, voluntary or involuntary, you learn something or meet something that sticks with you. It's a long process, not a quick fix.

I had a friend in dental school who was addicted to pain pills, and I had no idea until he told me. I knew he smoked weed on occasion. He later told me that pretty much every time we went out, he was on something. He did an outpatient rehab after doing crack. He did it once and swore he'd never do it again. When he did it a second time, he sought help.

Insurance is a legal contract designed to cover what it promises to cover. (nothing more, nothing less) If they are improperly denying your claim file a department of insurance complaint or get an attorney. It really is that simple. If it isn't covered just move on.

Good luck with everything, I have been down this road with a family member and we are still down this road. He did palmetto and then somewhere else after a relapse. Make the most of his time there and the after programs, I know plenty of people that have had to go back there a number of times, so unfortunately I donthave a lot of confidence in palmetto, stay strong

Im not reading 20+ pages of hints, suggestions, antidotal stories, personal experiences, and other posts to let you know:
Maybe an arse kicking is what he needs right now.
I'm sure he'd rather it by someone who loves him and wants him to open his eyes opposed to those who DGAF and don't have his best interests at work.
