On Reddit. I know, but there are some interesting questions on there.

And it seems lots of the people think that hormone therapy should be administered BEFORE puberty.

Speaking as a trans person, puberty is an ungodly nightmare. Forcing any trans youth to go through it isn't something they should have to endure, especially now that we have ways to prevent it.

It's like a train-wreck that just lasts years and years, your own body betraying you. Bad stuff. No bueno.

quote:

I wish more people understood this. Understandably there is a lot of fear about permanently altering children's bodies but many people fail to see how this also applies to forcing a child to go through puberty when we have the means to prevent it. Puberty is absolutely devastating to some people

quote:

25 MTF here, I'm going to be completely honest with you and this may not coincide with other trans folks: Growing up I did think something was wrong with me, mentally. I'm not one to deny that it is an issue with the brain, something develops early that causes your brain to believe it is one gender, while your body is another. I suffered pretty bad depression growing up on top of this. I began hormone therapy in February, and I have to say, since starting estrogen my depression has gotten significantly better, almost non existent. Since my brain is running on the right hormone, and blockers I'm taking are lowering my testosterone dramatically, I feel I can function so much better and happier. So maybe it is a mental issue, and HRT and transition are the solution, and it works.

Someone posted a really good question and that is what role does the emergence of the nonbinary/genderqueer play in treatment? I mean, they can change genders as many times as they want. And how does that affect your diagnosis of more "traditional" gender disorders?

It takes a sick mind to think a child can make such a life altering decision before they even hit puberty. If an adult wants to mangle and alter their body that's fine. But there is no way a child is capable of grasping the long term consiquences that will follow. This world has gone insane.

Trinidad, CO is known for such types of surgeries there. Weird for such a small town not near a big city.

According to the doc they don't treat people with anything Permanent until 17 or 18.

It would be odd to decide you didn't want to and be going thru poberty at 19 but whatever ain't my money

Transgender Surgery isn't the Solution

It's pretty clear that this is a psychological issue that we are only beginning to understand. I'm fine with liberty and letting people live their lives, but I just don't like the idea that as a society we are moving towards actively enabling their self-destructive behavior.

Unfortunately preconceived notions and biases make it hard to ever have an intelligent conversation about the issue without receiving a wealth of smartass comments. Many of these people are just trying to find their place in the world, but the SJW's are likely doing more harm to them than they realise. One group wants everyone to bend over backwards for a percent of 1% of our population while the other is stricken with fear over sexual deviants attacking their children in Target bathrooms.
