I might be the only one, but I hate the Knock Knock museum. They charge $15 per person, including adults. They charge $3 per person if you have an EBT card. It can quickly become a daycare for EBT families as parents just drop kids off and leave unsupervised.

Speaking of discount, most people don't know that you can "check out" USS Kidd passes for free at most EBR libraries. This is the time of year to visit the Kidd and good way to see it before it goes off for repair for a year.

The insectarium in downtown Nola is great for kids. Aquarium too. Zoo also.

The Insectarium and the Aquairum are now in the same building, requiring two different tickets to see both.

ETA: I’m picking him up at MSY on a Saturday, is there a go-kart place for kids in Nola?

This is about 30 minutes from MSY.
Nola Motorsports in Avondale.

This is right next to City Park in Baton Rouge.

Yep. My kids loved it at that age. Just make sure he's not afraid of heights.

Barnhill Wildlife Preserve in Ethel. Zipline + Encounter package.

Pet a kangaroo, feed a sloth, and meet/hold/pet a variety of other animals.

Take him on a “ride” on the Algiers ferry. You can go across and back fairly quickly and it’ll cost you more to park than to cross the Mississippi and come back.

I've been going to New Orleans from Baton Rouge for 40+ years and only last month found out you can buy a $3 Jazzy Pass with the Nola RTA app and use every street car/bus/ferry for 24 hours.

We parked by Audubon Park and took street care to Canal, ate in the Quarter walked around the RiverWalk, took the ferry to Algiers, then headed back to Audubon park. $9 for the 3 of us.

Highly recommend using this to anyone visiting Nola.

Global Wildlife Center if the weather is nice.

If you have the coin ($200 for 4 people), get the private tour in the Pinzgauer.. They don't have to follow the roads. If they spot a giraffe, they pull off the road and drive cross country to go see it. It's a much better and closer up experience.

MUCH better than this BS train thing

I took my four year old grandson to a fire station and one of the firemen gave him a chance to sit in the drivers seat and ring the bell. He was thrilled.

The attention span of a four year old is not long.

A lot of these suggestions are great for older kids. No way I'd take my 5 year old on a swamp tour for example.

- knock knock museum is great, but get there when they open and leave by lunch
- tumbles on bluebonnet is great for kids
- bluebonnet swamp visitor center has lots of turtles and snakes in aquariums/terrariums that my kids love. And with the cooler weather, the swamp is a nice walk too.
- Frenchtown rd conservation area is a little more rugged/wild but another great outdoor option
- barn hill nature preserve is definitely a winner. We've always gone for the pumpkin patch in the fall but I'm sure whatever they have this time of year is great too

Best advice I can give is this: try to view the success of each day/activity based on whether or not he had fun. It's easy to get caught up in our adult idea of what constitutes success/enjoyment. If you pay $30 for yall to go to knock knock and all he wants to do is draw in the dirt outside with a stick, that's awesome if he's enjoying himself.

The go-kart place is in Avondale about 30 minutes from MSY but its not kiddie go-karts. The karts there are pretty damn fast and geared for teens/adults. Even the junior karts have a 48" minimum height requirement.

If you want go-karts for a 4 year old, I think Celebration Station in BR is still open.
