Suburban gonna be hard to access the rear seats when the two captains chairs have car seats strapped to them. Go drive a van before spending that cash.

I've put the oldest in the back (3) but he doesn't have clear view of the headrest monitors.

That was my initial plan, but then I was thinking #2 (middle child problems) because of the post above yours. The front facing/eventual booster seat would be easier to navigate around to get to the third row.

I really just don't dig vans, so I want to avoid that.

Kids are so soft today. Do like we used to do and lay on the floor or stick him in the back cargo hold so he can make big rigs honk.

We have the infiniti QX 60. Middle seat will slide up (seat folds upwards to the seat back) plant if room to get in the back. Also, middle row reclines slightly, and cam be adjusted forward and backwards to share legroom with the 3rd row. 3rd row has more room than our 2011 tahoe had before sliding middle row up.

I've been on the hunt for a similar vehicle and I'll be getting a Dodge Durango. GMC Acadia would be second choice.

edit- third choice would be the Ford Explorer sport mentioned below. However, during the test drive, I preferred the ride of the Durango and Acadia to the Explorer.

Is there an option for a bench middle where one seat goes to the floor so you had a window and middle seat with an opening to the third row? That would be ideal.

Out of the three (newborn, almost 2, 3.5 years), who goes in the back? I've been thinking about this.

The one who needs the least amount of assistance. Which would usually be the oldest, assuming he can get in and out of the seatbelt by himself.

Newborn needs to be in the middle if you're planning on using an infant carrier and snapping it onto a base, as it would be very difficult to put that into a backseat. I'm guessing the middle kid is probably still in a 5-point harness, so he may need more help with the buckle.

Or the one least likely to get carsick.

We got an explorer because they looked cooler than an Acadia. The Acadia was a better riding vehicle.

The Explorer Sport has an eco boost engine with tons of power but horrible gas mileage.

I don't think there is a vehicle in which a middle row seat can fold to the floor. it either folds flat and elevated, or pushes forward for access to the third row.

This is a good answer as I would think it may be hard to get around the baby seats while they're in the captains chairs.

ETA I see you covered that on page 2.

We looked at Expedition with 2nd row captain chairs. After test driving we opted for the 2nd row bench and all 3 are on that row. Easily in reach and when older kids are in booster seats we can send them to the 3rd row. Ages 6,3,1

We did highlander with captains chairs. Works well for us. Wife's parents have an Acadia with captains chairs. I prefer the highlander, but both are great.

Yea I'm looking at getting an expedition next with my 2 kiddos. I'm sure vans are very practical but there isn't a chance in hell I'm ever cruising around in a van. The wife is in the same boat as me, this is a van free zone.

BMW X5. Third row accessible by tilting the second row seats forward and keeping car seat strapped in.
