Beginning our search for a new vehicle since we have another little one on the way. I noticed many vehicles need to fold down the second seat in order to access the 3rd row.

Anyone have any recommendations on crossovers or full size that have 2nd rows that can slide forward while car seats remain in place?

Thanks in advance.

Either get an SUV that has second row captains chairs or get a minivan.

Captains.

Yukon/Tahoe, Lexus GX, Sequoia, and Expiditions are the ones that come to mind with those chairs that do not have a center concole blocking the path.

Lots I've seen still have a console between the captain's chairs

I have an explorer with captains chairs. Excellent SUV if you don't want to go as big as a expedition.

We did Infiniti QX80 and removed the console in the second row

Thanks. I'll need to check out some of those.

Still haven't ruled out a van which we know would be the most effective.

Qx80 is a little out of my budget. Looking at the qx60 though.

Not so subtle brag.

Yeah there are quite a few options with 2nd row captains chairs and they are great. Ford Explorer and Chevy traverse as well as many higher end vehicles and mini vans.

Swallow your pride and just get a mini van.

Most 3 row SUVs lose nearly all trunk space when the 3rd row is being used. Not to mention the 3rd row is typically not adequate for adults.

I wasn't aware it was easily removable. Is that the case in most vehicles with captains?

Sequoia, you can just pop out the console between the backseat captains chairs.

Wife has an Acura MDX that has a minuscule backseat that holds a booster seat for one kid. To access, you can't slide up the rear facing car seat for the smallest one, but it's accessible from sliding up the backseat with the other booster seat. If we had to do it over again, would've gone with the minivan.

The van will be so much more useful with kids, sliding side doors that kids can't swing out and hit adjacent vehicles in a parking lot, easier for them to climb in, etc. Many vans will have the third row collapse into the floor for max space when they aren't being used. We sold a Yukon xl for the odyssey and it's so much easier to use.

I'd recommend the Acadia if you don't want to spend Yukon/expedition money

#3 otw for us too. We are pretty set on a suburban with captains second row. I had a brand new one for a rental one week and that ride was nice.

Out of the three (newborn, almost 2, 3.5 years), who goes in the back? I've been thinking about this.

This is 100% accurate. If you need a third row, get an Odyssey or something similar. Otherwise just plan on leaving it folded down 100% of the time so you have room for stuff in the back.
