You never know. Fighter pilots have a longer lifespan. Something to do with the altitude

What's funny is, the battle didn't happen where the Chalmette battle field is located... It actually happened in an area around bayou bienvenue..

Is that the same one they aired last night? Or is it a different one?

I've never, ever, heard or read of this. I've read the British ships landed near there from Lake Borgne and marched towards N.O. after defeating the American Navy.

Are you paraphrasing the quote from Bunker Hill?

Same. There were other skirmishes leading up to the main battle on the 8th. But from the programs I've watched, the battle took place along the river. Jackson had an artillery battery on the west bank to protect his right flank, and the British sent units to take out that flank. However, the current took them further downriver than they planned and it took longer for those troops to reach the artillery battery. They eventually took that out, but by that time, Jackson's forces had inflicted severe damage to the British on the east bank and had killed or severely wounded most of the line of command.

In 1814 we took a little trip
Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the bloody British in a town in New Orleans

We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they begin to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
(One-two-three, with a-one-two-three)

We looked down a river
(Hut-two)
And we see'd the British come
(Three-four)
And there must have been a hundred of'em
(Hut-two)
Beatin' on the drums
(Three-four)
They stepped so high
(Hut-two)
And they made their bugles ring
(Three-four)
We stood by our cotton bales
(Hut-two)
And didn't say a thing
(Two-three-four)

We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they begin to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Old Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise
(One-hut, two-three-four)
If we didn't fire our muskets
(One-hut, two-three-four)
'Till we looked 'em in the eye
(One-hut, two-three-four)
We held our fire
(Hut, two-three-four)
'Till we see'd their faces well
Then we opened up our squirrel guns
And really gave 'em - well we

Fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they begin to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Yeah, they ran through the briars
(One-hup-two)
And they ran through the brambles
(Hup-two-three-four)
And they ran through the bushes
(Hup-two)
Where the rabbit couldn't go
(Hup-two-three-four)
They ran so fast
(Hup-two)
That the hounds couldn't catch 'em
(One-two-three-four)
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
(One-two, hup-two-three-four)

We fired our cannon 'til the barrel melted down
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round
We filled his head with cannon balls, and powdered his behind
And when we touched the powder off the gator lost his mind

We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they begin to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Yeah, they ran through the briars
(Hup-one-two)
And they ran through the brambles
(One-two-three-four)
And they ran through the bushes
(Hup-two)
Where the rabbit couldn't go
(Hup-two-three-four)
They ran so fast
(Hup-two)
That the hounds couldn't catch 'em
(One-two-three-four)
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Jackson never would have succeeded with out Jean Lafitte & Dominique Youx in attendance.

I would have been there as part of Lafitte's clan.

Anyone know if this will be portrayed in the reenactment ?

Nice Graphic! For those of you who are interested in this stuff, check out a book called Patriotic Fire.

The USS Carolina was one bad bitch during the early days of the fighting. According to the book, it floated down from New Orleans with the current, quietly dropped anchor in the middle of the night, then opened up with all its cannons and greatly reduced the British forces. Hard to say if the battle could have been won without the initial barrage from the Carolina. Also, it talks about the Indians we put on our flank that would disobey “orders”, sneak out at night, kill a few brits, then sneak back.

Another interesting part of the book is how Jean Lafitte got butt hurt at a victory ball later that night when someone didn’t shake his hand or something. Dude packed up his shite and left. Died penniless in Mexico years later. He coulda been damn near royalty in NOLA if he had stayed. Accounts stated that it wasn’t a deliberate slight by the guest at the party, but apparently Lafitte was being a real woman about it.

Me and my dad were looking at the sword last night that my great great great (not sure how many) grandpa used in that battle 200 years ago. It was made in 1800. It been passed down in my family ever since. In great condition for being that old also.
