Dee Martin may wake up on Jan. 1 and find herself in a whole different state.
South Carolina and North Carolina have redrawn the border between the two states with GPS technology that allows them to confirm the boundary lines established under an English king in the 18th century down to the centimeter. But that means the lines drawn decades ago through less exact surveying measures are several hundred feet off.

South of the Border may have to change its name to North of the Border, huh?

This type of stuff is really interesting to me. Most notable surveying error is the Delaware Triangle/Curve. There's also that peninsula off Vancouver, Canada that's in Washington State, USA. The kids going to school have to drive into Canada and around.
I'm sure someone in here knows of the landowners in LA and MS along the MS River that because of new cuts in the river since the boundaries were set are now in MS but on the west bank and in LA but on the east bank.

Did you watch "How the states got their shapes?"
It had some interesting things like this. Mentioned the island off of Vancouver that belonged to Washington state.

Yeah I've seen it before. I've been very facinated with maps since I was a kid. I asked for an atlas for my 4th birthday

I know there is an Illinois city on the Missouri side of the Mississippi River due to the river shifting.

Yeah. And IIRC you actually drive through Iowa on your way from Omaha airport to downtown despite never crossing the river.

If you lived <100 ft from the border you pretty much had one foot already in. Though I doubt the border they have is a river like ours.

income tax, homestead exemption, in state v. out of state tuition, etc., lots of thing s could be affected, I'm sure there would be some adjusting, grandfathering if it were to happen though
