I hate going over that bridge. It's steep, it's got a low, transparent rail, and knowing the state of infrastructure in our country, it's probably about to fall down.

They really need to spend the money and build a new bridge. I heard it would be a major environmental issue because of all the contaminants and residuals that has settled at the base of the bridge from ConocoPhillips over the years. What's really scary is when traffic is at a stand still on the bridge, I'm just waiting for it to collapse.

Has nothing on the Rainbow Bridge in Port Arthur IMO. I hate that thing with a passion.

AMEN! AMEN!

That thing MOVES when an 18wheeler is on it. Add to the fact there's not median or concrete barrier between inside opposing lanes..and it's downright SCARY. And you better hit the base of it doing 60, because by the time you hit the top (if you're in a little truck/car)...you're doing 40.

I did not know this existed. The posted speed limit up that monster is 60mph? That's horrifying.

I just drove over the bridge and noticed a big opening in the side and railings and wondered how the hell that happened. i hope they're able to restore the bridge to exactly how it was. I like the pistols on the side.

I don't know if it is or not...but I'm not fond of that bridge at all.

But I do remember back in the 80s or early 90s when an expansion joint on the I-10 bridge broke loose from the concrete and struck a rig underneath....messed up the I-10 bridge for months.

But 210 had had its fair share of issues too...Freighter hit it one time...you could see where the concrete buckled on the outside Eastbound lane. My mom totaled her Plymouth Fury on the 210 bridge after bouncing 3 times from median to median and ending up on the guardrail (back in the late 70s/early 80s).

It's the steepest grade allowed. Something like 33 degrees. I read a story once about how it's the steepest allowed and the no longer build em that steep. (something like that)

What is north of the Lake Charles bridge that made them want to build it that high?

I think there is a dock or 2 on the NW side.

Even if it is still used, the height of the bridge is overkill.

I hate that bridge. Especially when traffic is slowed or stopped. Talk about scary sitting still on that incline feeling the thing shake.

frick. I thought the Lake Charles bridge was scary until I read the rest of the thread.

I'm getting the shivers just thinking about the Port Arthur bridge.
