What is north of the Lake Charles bridge that made them want to build it that high?

Currently, the only thing that demands the bridge be that high is Friend Ships Unlimited. I really wish the govt would buy them some land south of LC so they could relocate.

Well, that's not what I was expecting.

Looking at the video, how high was he when he fell off? I'm guessing not at the top point.

I hate that bridge. The only two bridges I ever have hated driving over are that bridge and the old Huey P

Lake Charles bridge is one of those rare times I'm in the left lane the whole way with "frick you I'm not moving over" the whole time

I just fly to Houston now.

I remember when I was going through the driving part of drivers ed. class and it was time to drive over the 210 bridge followed immediately by going over the I-10 bridge. Fun times when you're learning how to drive.

Has nothing on the Rainbow Bridge in Port Arthur IMO. I hate that thing with a passion.

we had to drive over that thing in driver ed growing up in SE Texas...thinking back on it, the driver's ed teachers must have had a death wish...

Yep, they need to relocate them but even if they don't, a new bridge could be half the height and be just fine.

Seriously, there is a train tressel bridge maybe a qtr mile north. So nothing goes past their dock immediately north of the bridge.

I would live to see how they plan to bring the old one down!

I love cutting around Beaumont heading eastbound on the new bridge, but REFUSE to going back west because of this bridge. Did it once, never again.

It's the steepest grade allowed. Something like 33 degrees. I read a story once about how it's the steepest allowed and the no longer build em that steep. (something like that)

Makes sense that is no longer allowed. I remember maybe 5 or so years ago when they were replacing the bridge over the Trinity River between Houston and Beaumont. The old bridge was narrow and high a steep incline, the new bridge starts rising much earlier and thus has a much less steep incline.
