fricking this

Gleason has done more for other people than just about anyone in Saints history. He was a phenomenal ambassador of the organization, football, and humanity. What kind of a self absorbed, perspective lacking douche bag would give two shits about this ceremony, other than feeling overwhelming joy for a great human being.

They definitely benefited from it, but I don't think Gleason would have agreed to any of this if he felt like they were using him. They're his friends.

And yes, he was a special teamer, but as you know, there are things more important than football. The fact of the matter is a boy is going to grow up without his father, and think it will be nice for the boy to see these things that will let him know that people loved his dad.

It's not like the saints are gonna run out of numbers because of this.

I am very sympathetic to Gleason and support his organization.

I like Gleason and support his work...but lets be honest...he was a special teamer. The guy who recovered the block and scored probably couldn't be named by 3/4 of this board.

Gleason has ALS. Thus he is valued by the organization. If it was the guy who recovered the block who had ALS he'd be promoted just as much.

It's a win win for Gleason and the Saints.

Well done. I don't think his number should be retired either, but the meaning of this one is a bit different and special and I guess I can respect the saints organization for that. Very classy move by saints.

Probably. Gleason's play, and the night he made it, sent a bigger message though IMO. I mean, it wasn't too long before that when nobody knew if the Saints would ever be back in New Orleans.

The Dome was the loudest ever after his play

Fine. Give him his damn moment.

But if they do, then Tom Dempsey and Tracy Porter deserve one too.

I mean Bobby Phills' jersey hangs up in the Arena he was retired because he died in a car crash.

I have NO issue with this.

I'm glad Gleason will be remembered as long as the dome stands.

2. The Saints have 2 retired jersey numbers. Jim Taylor (played for the Saints for 1 year) and Doug Atkins (played w Saints for 3 years). Both made their marks w other teams
In actuality, those two are not even retired any more. They are used almost annually.

My guess is that his number will be added to the wall of honor (and not jersey retired).

I thought 8 and 57 were retired?

(eta, banners not jersey. I get it. Hawthorne is 57)

The numbers on the banners are retired by the Dome. That's why Eddie Robinson and Dave Dixon are up there. Just another reason those against this are moronic.

He made the most memorable play in Saints history so he more than deserves the honor. So STFU twat-nibblet.

I agree with Jazzy Jeff.
