I don't want them to spend, or even commit to future spending, on another stadium because right now there is no certainty as to the saints plans for the future here and there cannot be until benson dies or sells the team and the resulting question of will the team even stay here be settled once and for all.

I don't even like the sound of that myself, but its the truth

They don't need to rebuild there, there's a lot of space alongside the river over there by the convention center. I have said this before and a great location if you ask me because it can revitalize that whole warehouse district area over there, but as posters have said LA is a broke arse state so it'll be hard to get the funding up.

You think they would build a new stadium without locking the team up?

The saints aren't going anywhere. Pretty obvious at this point.

We shouldn't build a new stadium because we've recently put 100s of millions into the dome and there isn't anything wrong with it

That is beyond optimistic. Would take two seasons minimum.

I don't understand why people discuss the Dome. Has been totally overhauled in the last decade, new video boards installed THIS SEASON... The location is arguably the best in the league. New Orleans doesn't need a new stadium to be considered for a Super Bowl, we have everything you could want. The building is visually appealing, historic and perfectly located. Only reason it's considered is to add a few dollars to the owners in additional suite sales, but how many more companies are going to pay for suites in New Orleans??

This whole thread is dumb

Except when you dont get any more Super Bowl bids.

If you truly believe NOLA will get another SB in the next 5 years I have a bridge to sell you.

Hell Wrestlemania 34 might be the last BIG TIME event the Dome holds.

I dont count Final Four shite.

We'll get a super bowl over an city that doesn't build a new stadium

And you shouldn't build a billion dollar stadium to get a super bowl

After Vegas gets theirs, it will come back to New Orleans. And that's if Vegas can even get everything together for the next bid.

Really going out on a limb there with the Super Bowls already decided until 2022.

2017: Houston
2018: Minny
2019: Atlanta
2020: Miami
2021: LA

Saints have a good shot in 2022 and 2023, depending on when Vegas gets theirs. It took all 4 rounds of voting, with a simple majority against New Orleans against the billion dollar stadiums of both Atlanta and Minny

Oh wait, you're actually serious

quote:

The renovation will push the total post-Katrina investment into the Dome to nearly $400 million.

We're reaching the end of the new stadium cycle. There aren't really any cities left capable of hosting the Super Bowl that need new ones either.

So assuming Las Vegas gets 2023,

You mean to tell me that a stadium which I can give a rats arse how much they have renovated. Will have a chance at a Super Bowl 7 years from now. Lol!!!!

That would make the dome 3 years short of 50 years old.

OKAY SURE BUDDY.

Jerry World will get another Super Bowl before Nola. Arizona will get one before Nola. Hell NY/NJ may get another one before NOLA.

You are delusional if you don't think within the next 15 years the Saints will need a new stadium. You can only shine up grandmas cadillac so many times before people just don't care anymore.

Was this in English?

Yes, the Saints would have a chance to host a Super Bowl 7 years from now if they underwent more renovations as part of the bid proposal.

You know, how Miami got a Super Bowl for putting $400 million towards their stadium.

Doubtful, but we'll see. There were major logistical issues when the Super Bowl was in Dallas due to the location, time of year, and weather. The media loves having it in New Orleans for a reason.

Tell me, with Dallas (or Arlington really) hosting in 2011 and New Orleans hosting in 2013, why wasn't Dallas invited to pitch for the Super Bowls?

quote:

You are delusional if you don't think within the next 15 years the Saints will need a new stadium.

If they continue to maintain and update it, I don't see why we would need a new stadium.

Please answer this question that I've asked 1,000x, what is wrong with the Superdome's structure?

quote:

You can only shine up grandmas cadillac so many times before people just don't care anymore.

Yea, people hate classic vehicles.

quote:

“It is clear to all owners that New Orleans is a top-notch Super Bowl city with talented leadership representing the Saints and the community,” Goodell wrote in the letter. “Although you did not secure the 2019 game against unusually strong and unique competition, we would look forward to working closely with you and your community in bringing a Super Bowl back to New Orleans soon.”

Furthermore, the reason the Saints couldn't bid on the Super Bowl in 2020, was due to the national championship being in Nola, but you really nailed it:

quote:

Hell Wrestlemania 34 might be the last BIG TIME event the Dome holds.

The one time in a century DFW had a blizzard just so happened to be for the SB. You can bookmark this post. DFW will get another one before NOLA if they are both bidding the same year.

Dude I love the dome. However, there are CLEAR differences from New stadiums to the dome. It's not even close man.

Sorry typing this on my phone.

How old is Miami's stadium? Can't be more than 30 no?

No matter the Engineering marvel, you can't make a 50 year old stadium look and feel better than a new stadium. Eventually the dome will have to come down. The sooner people get on board the faster we can lock the Saints down for the next 20-30 years and flood the city with revenue streams every year.

Btw, you should tell ESPN that I'm being a homer

LINK

SUPER BOWL LVI

Year: 2022

Projected site: New Orleans

quote:

Comment: In recent bidding, one of the country's greatest party cities has lost out twice to new stadiums, a decidedly stacked deck. The Superdome will be 47 years old by 2022, and it will be hard to erase the memory of the 2013 blackout at Super Bowl XLVII. But the building has undergone nearly $400 million in renovations since enduring Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and it seems only a matter of time before the game returns here.

Also You may laugh at Wrestlemania but it pulls more revenue into its host city (Super Bowl Stadiums) than the actual Super Bowl....

Again,

You act as if ESPN holds credibility anymore lol.

Regardless, it's clear you want to hold onto your precious dome. We will just agree to disagree.

There's way more to a winning Super Bowl bid than the stadium, WAY more. And New Orleans has everything the NFL looks for in a Super Bowl city.

Dallas had more issues than just weather.

And you have to be invited to bid on the Super Bowl.

And there are only so many new stadiums to go around. Minnesota and Indy aren't going to be competing with the southern cities 99% of the time.

How old is Miami's stadium? Can't be more than 30 no?

It will be 35 when it hosts, and the Dome is a better place to watch a game today.

quote:

you can't make a 50 year old stadium look and feel better than a new stadium

Attending a game at the Superdome is better than attending at most NFL stadiums. Yes, there are nicer stadiums, but the location of the Dome is the biggest advantage in football.

Furthermore, the only real issue with the Superdome was the video screen, and the Saints now have the largest indoor screens in football

quote:

Regardless, it's clear you want to hold onto your precious dome. We will just agree to disagree.

Because your ONLY reason for saying that a new stadium is NEEDED is to host a Super Bowl. There is no NEED for a new stadium.

And then you point to Arlington, which will go 10+ years without hosting one

I would love to have a stadium outside of the City instead of in Downtown. New England did this, and I think Arizona did as well. I makes the parking situation so much better and makes it easier to get in and out.

i'd love an open air stadium, with a retractable roof for non sporting events....

but use that south LA humidity to our advantage, shite... let them feel that 100%, 98 degree early season weather.... if we train here, we'll get used to it.... other teams, not so much... and that shite is a beast if you ain't used to it...

No mentioned automobile traffic access. The Superdome sits in a damn near perfect spot for vehicular traffic. You've got the Interstate right outside the door and at least three entrances within blocks going in both directions. For local fans, there's also Earhart coming in from the Western half, and the Pontchartrain Expressway/U.S. 90 B coming in from the West Bank and points farther west.

Build a new stadium up river of the Convention Center, then watch spectators trying to get out. The distance isn't all that great, but it's either get on and go to the West Bank at Tchoupitoulas, or have +/- 70,000 people try to get onto the Expressway/Interstate right there on Calliope. Good luck with that.

Westbank could use the improvements, but as has been mentioned, where? And you think traffic is bad now, put it on the river on the West Bank and LOOK OUT.

The East would make sense, but Super Bowls, especially, are about visitors, and if they have to get cabs or drive out to the East, you've ruined it.
