There is nowhere near enough space by the convention center for a new stadium without removing existing development. Second the convention center owns that land and already has expansion plans in the works including a new hotel.

There's more than enough room over there in that area and just because they own it doesn't mean anything, plans change all the time. But I'm not gonna argue over something that will probably never come to fruition anyways. People on here just wanna talk about keep recycling the Superdome over and over any damn ways. I don't care how much new stuff they put inside of it, you can only keep dressing up a pig so much with makeup and lipstick. The NFL is going in this direction of having these NFL cities build new modern, state of the art stadiums now and rewarding them for it with the SB. NO will have to build one eventually if they ever wanna see the SB again, that's just the way it is.

Really? How many home LSU games are at noon or even 2:30?

Because I've been to those gamea "baw shite", and the fan experience sucks and the atmosphere tends to be dead

What is the actual benefit of a new stadium in place of Superdome?

There is absolutely no need for another stadium. If you walked into the building, not knowing its 40 years old, you'd say it was just built. It has everything a fan needs now that the screens are bigger. Why would you want an open-air stadium in 90 degree heat. It usually rains during at least 3-4 of the 10 games we have. People get caught up in needing new things and fail to realize just how perfect the Dome is for this area.
Only thing I'd do is add windows on the roof so we can get some natural light inside and get a new turf that doesn't look so awful on tv. Other than that leave everything alone. Super Bowl's come here because of everything surrounding the dome not the dome itself.

New stadiums aren't about fans. They are about revenue.

Duncan had an article about this topic yesterday

quote:

"We are very happy at the Superdome," Saints president Dennis Lauscha said Friday. "As an organization, we are focused and dedicated to being here long-term, and we don't think there is a need or a desire for a new stadium at this time."

quote:

The going rate for a new stadium is an absurd $1.5 billion. A renovation of the Superdome, meanwhile, could be accomplished for roughly one-tenth that cost, said Doug Thornton, the vice president of stadiums for SMG, the company that manages the Superdome. "No one believes we need a new stadium," Thornton said. "As long as we can keep making improvements to the facility, there's no reason why the Superdome cannot continue to keep the team competitive and be a viable facility for the foreseeable future."

quote:

State and Saints officials have begun informal discussions on the next phase, which could include, among other things, a reinvention of the main Poydras Street entryway, interior upgrades to the terrace level and potentially replacing some parts of the exterior roof and walls with ETFE glass to bring natural light into the stadium.

ETFE glass is what the Vikings used for the roof of their new stadium

I'd be interested to see how they could implement it into the Superdome roof. Natural light into the dome would be different for sure.
