And who is going to pay for a billion dollar stadium?
Posted on 1/22/17 at 11:18 pm to NorthshoreTiger76
Who's going to pay for that????

Jerry world is fantastic. If you choose to watch the game on the screen blame yourself, not the size of it.

Jerrys world is nice but the location is terrible. I'd rather go to an event at the superdome any day of the week.

Well where did you propose they put it at??????
Uptown/Lower Greenville is full to the brim and the traffic would be a nightmare.
They just tried to get the Rangers a new stadium in Frisco but that fell through. Everything is stuck in Arlington because of proxy to both Dallas and Ft. Worth. It is literally right in the middle of both metro areas.
Typically the NFL gives quite a bit of money to fund new stadiums. I would believe that if we came up with a good plan and presentation, the NFL may kick in a little more to make it happen due to the nature of how much the Superbowl has come to the dome in the past.

Moving the stadium away from down town would be monumentally stupid.
Which means Louisiana officials are going to make it happen.

They have a pretty good location right down the street where Mardi Gras world is now but they would need to do a shite load of work to get that area ready. It's the only spot I can think of in the vicinity that could possibly work.

Well since it is a landmark now I just don't know how you can do it.
The same way that the Yankees tore down Yankee Stadium and how the Bears tore down and rebuilt Soldier Field.

Louisiana is a broke arse state. They couldn't afford to build a high school stadium let alone an NFL stadium.
Somebody does not understand the dedicated tax revenue system (aka: huge government clusterf**k) that La has. I broke down the #'s 2 years ago and if the Bensons or future owner(s) of the Saints & Pelicans have a finance model similar to the Vikings or the Falcons and the Bucks (NBA), get around the NFL and NBA average for naming rights, the current hotel tax provides enough revenue to build a $1.5billion stadium for the Saints and a $500million arena for the Pelicans.
Here is the LINK to that post, which is toward the bottom of that page.

The NFL stadium fund will contribute $300-$400 million.
Naming rights should easily bring $10million/yr * 30 year deal = $300million
Current hotel tax ˜ $34million/yr * 30 years = $1,020,000,000
There is ~$1.6billion in funding that is available and after the State pays of the remaining debt of the Dome $1.0-$1.4 billion could easily be available to build a new stadium without any new taxes, PSLs, etc.

So what we really should do is Demo the entire sports complex where the Dome and Area sit and rebuild on top of it a better version of what we have now.

They could set it up similar to the Titans stadium in Nashville. Build it across the river, set up a few walking bridges over the river, ferries going back and forth, etc
Could also be an opportunity to clean up the westbank

Only way to do that is genocide.

This could be an issue between the shipping traffic on the river & width of the river. The necessary height combined with a steep incline on both ends along with the length would not make for a pleasant walking experience.

I personally love the Superdome and would vote against any legislation trying to get tax payers to fund a new stadium. Occasional renovations are fine, new stadium is a waste.
Posted on 1/23/17 at 1:55 pm to 50_Tiger
That would leave the Saints playing in Tiger Stadium for 2-3 years. Not ideal.

Start demo in Feb, miss one season in NOLA, open in time for following season. That is what? 19 months? We couldnt get it done in 19 months with enough many power?

I don't think that would be a realistic timeline to Demo a site like the Superdome and replace it.
Still haven't heard what is wrong with the dome as a structure.
Maybe we can get a retractable roof like Houston and open it 0x a season
