I'm talking about a Saints player hated by Saints fans.

This article says the answer is Russell Erxleben. Not a bad answer IMO.

Agree ? Disagree?

quote:

New Orleans Saints - Russell Erxleben

Erxleben isn’t hated outside of New Orleans, but Saints fans absolutely despite the man. The Saints made the horrendous decision to draft Erxleben, a kicker, with the No. 11 overall pick in the 1979 draft. He proceeded to be a massive bust, never make a Pro Bowl and had a few end-of-game blunders that cost the Saints wins. In 1980, the Saints lost 14 consecutive games and finished 1-15.

every early 2000's thread revisited produces a lot of Aaron Brooks hate.

bunch of morons.

Wade Wilson might do it... never seen the crowd cheer an injury to the QB before.

I don't think Erxleben is really hated. He's pretty much universally known as the worst decision in the history of the franchise, but that isn't the same as hating the guy. It wasn't his fault that we used a first round pick on a player who sucked.

The one that comes to mind as most hated is Aaron Brooks. Something about how he smiled after making bone headed plays really rubbed people the wrong way.

If we're just talking about worst draft picks here then there is no way that Stallworth was a worse decision than using a 1st round pick on a kicker/punter who couldn't kick or punt. Stallworth was disappointing and not worth the pick, but he wasn't a complete bust of a player. He still had some years where he produced something and a longer career than most.

Sullivan

Even though I saw Sullivan wearing a Falcons hat while on the team I still hate Jason David more.

This is the first I've ever heard about us drafting this kicker. Why on earth did they do that? Was that more common to actually draft kickers in 1979? Just seems so moronic but I guess that's why the franchise was terrible for so many years.

Erxleben was a kicker and punter which theoretically was worth an extra roster spot. Couldn't do either tho

Pointing out that we overpaid for him in the draft and have received very little in five seasons doesn't equate to hate.

He's not a bust but surely hasn't been remotely close to the hype. What makes it worse is we gave up on several quality RBs and it has left us with very little.

I'm sure his surrender on the final play of the game won't help his favorability.
