I WR Thomas is average, but Reed is a beast, then the draft grade will drop. If the opposite occurs, then bump up the grade.

Notice Reed and Robinson were considered by talking heads to be "1st round talent" and some places had them as the 2nd and 3rd best DTs in the draft.

Yet they were the 7th and 8th DT taken in this draft. So if we're wrong, so are the Packers, Cardinals, Panthers, Chiefs, and Titans. 4 of those typically draft defensive players well so I'm going to go ahead and say that they know what they're talking about and fans don't.

Saints should have been able to get 4-5 starters with picks in Round 1-5 in this draft.

In what realistic draft would that happen. Go look at ANY team in the NFL, it is an anomaly to get 4-5 starters in the first 5 rounds in ANY draft. If it were to happen, it isn't the norm and the expectations to get "4-5 starters" in 5 rounds is ludicrous. Even the 2006 draft didn't net that in the first 5 rounds and it was considered our best draft of this era.

Even Carolina's 2014 draft (which is considered one of the best in the past 5 years), didn't net 4-5 starters in the first 5 rounds.

I like the Bell pick but at the same time it magnifies the Vaccaro pick from a few years ago and definitely is a shot at Byrd IMO.

you trade back into the 2nd round? Yeah, I like the pick but I also feel like that's a reeling reaction from what else they've done at the position in the last few years.

I like the 4th round pick fwiw a lot.

the first 2 picks were spot on IMO

I think Rankins is going to be a difference maker when teamed with Fairly. If they can create push inside, then the Saints defense can dramatically improve.

I think Thomas and Bell are both going to be good players, but WR and S (IMO) weren't the missing pieces to a serious playoff run. Even without Thomas the Saints were going to be among the league leaders in passing, and you could argue that DB was the "deepest" position on the team. Is Bell going to start over Byrd or Vaccarro?

The Saints needed to get better in their front 7. Rankins certainly will help, but aside from him you only picked up a significant project player who may not contribute much this season AND you traded away a player to do it.

In the end, I think the Saints picked up three potential starters (which is never a bad thing). The concern is that if you are trying to make one more big run with Brees, then I don't know if this draft made the Saints significantly better in the short term, which is all you have left with Brees

Again receiver depth pre draft:

Cooks
Snead
Coleman
PS Guys
Camp Bodies

One guy goes down and we were fricked. And do you really trust Coleman as the third guy?

There's a reason we brought in Meachem pre draft. If we didn't snag a WR he would be our 3rd/4th. And we know how much fans love him.

With them this year. He has the exceptional ability for a safety to be able to cover the slot recv.

And next year your answer is yes he will start over Byrd if not sooner.

Is the name "San Antonio Saints" redundant as a nickname? Bc "San Antonio" means "Saint Anthony" in Spanish - so it would be like saying "Saint Anthony Saints" if translated.

Not to mention we can disguise coverages with all three on the field.

Bell can cover deep, under, and man. Byrd can cover deep and under (allegedly he can do some man too). Vaccaro can cover under and man (and can do deep in a pinch but I'd prefer they used that sparringly for confusion).

That allows you to do a lot of shifting and diguising pre and post snap.

Yeah, Bell won't start this year, but he'll definitely contribute.

He's versatile.

C...No guard and No edge rusher. Moved up to the 4th and gave up picks to draft a 24 y/o with no body of work based on a workout.

If I told you we had drafted Avery Young, Landon Turner, and Jack Allen (all projected to go 4-5th round) in addition to the guys we drafted, does that help the draft grade.

He has dominated his competition and was the #1 player in Canada. He would have been the top player taken in the CFL draft, for what its worth.
