is there a thing as possibly overqualified?

Yes? In the sense that he should get consideration for defensive coordinator and bolt after a year. Doesn't mean we shouldn't hire him

Did he have a good season or did he just make a lot of tackles? Because I think his metrics were below average.

I've wanted him to coach on our team for years. We need him in the worse way. He needs to be our D.C. Get Allen out of here.

My take on Anthony is this.

2015 Ryan allowed Anthony to be a free range player and told him to read the play and go get the ball. So this allowed him to be right 75-80% of the time where he could read especially a running play. Ryan's schemes didn't necessarily assign Anthony a role.

2016 Allen doesn't coach that way and needed Anthony to read cues and play in areas and space.

Mt guess is being wrong 20% of the time on his reads is keeping him off the field.

Five year statute of limitations on drug charges has run out since the DEA snooped around the Saints in 2010-11. So I guess now that it's over Vitt no longer needs to be kept quiet on the payroll. Ha ha. I'm kidding.

Payton thanked fired coaches in statement:

quote:

“I would like to thank all of these coaches for the work they have done for this club,” Payton said. “Specifically, Bill [Johnson], Greg [McMahon] and Joe [Vitt] played a key role on teams that helped create a very special time in franchise history. They played an instrumental role in the development of countless players both on and off the field. I appreciate the contributions that these men have made to this team and wish them continued success.”

He sounded sincere. He may miss them as comic relief.

Praise the fricking lord. Hallelujah.

I didn't think Sean had the balls to actually fire his friends. I thought he was too tight with them to take jobs away from them.

This shows to me he's serious about getting the saints back to where they were in 2011 and doesn't want to waste the best football player to ever play for the saints anymore.

Don't be so quick to laugh. Can you remember another rookie linebacker after Ricky Jackson that's had a better rookie year than Anthony?

I'm not saying there isn't but I'm blanking. We've been terrible at drafting linebackers.

Jonathan Casillas has turned into a pretty good NFL LB once he got away from Vitt.

Was just looking and Jack Del Rio as a 3rd Rd pick in 1985 had 2 INTs, 3 forced fumbles, and 5 fumbles recovered, 1 for a TD.

I always thought it was obvious that Vitt wasn't a good talent developer.

He's usually worked with veteran free agents via trade or free agency. Member all those years where we pounded the table on here to draft a LB real high??

yet kept signing veteran LB's (even Laurinaitis) after we finally broke down and drafted a LB in the same year (Anthony)?

I don't know how well liked/respected he was by the players but I think his firing may send the biggest message to the team?? At least out of all the coaches who were just canned.

Meh... Likely just another two years of 7-9, 8-8 while the new coaches "get settled in with no repercussions on SP/ML.
