Don Banks has the Saints taking....

quote:

27. New Orleans -- C.J. Mosley, LB, Alabama

The Saints surprisingly spent for Jarius Byrd in free agency and re-signed Zach Strief, taking safety and offensive tackle off their first-round need list. Some help for the pass rush or another cornerback are logical targets, but this board doesn't line up quite right for them. Instead we have New Orleans taking the best available defensive prospect in the productive and proven Mosley, who could go much higher than this if an inside linebacker-needy team values his well-rounded skillset.

Other Teams:

Falcons - Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo
Bucs - Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson
Panthers - Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama

I would love that.

But I doubt Mosley will be available at 27.

I'd be mad if Cooks went 26 though

If Mosley can be that fast LB who can range the middle of the field and cover TE's and backs on passing routes then I am all for it. We desperately need someone like that. But I'll be happy with a CB or WR.

I'm amazed that less than two years removed from the 2012 abortion, I'm gonna say this but.... I think the offense needs to be addressed earlier than the defense. It was offensive struggles that lost most of our games last year. A talented WR early could help.

That's true, but you can definitely argue that our offenses success hinges on the performance of the OL. There is no doubt they underperformed for the first 3/4 of the season, but once they plugged Armstead in and Evans got healthy we looked a lot better on that front and the offense as a whole performed a lot better (particularly in the run game.. I know we committed to more carries down the stretch, but we had way more YPC too).

If we can address the Center position, the OL will look very good if everyone is healthy going into the season.

We definitely still need help at WR, don't get me wrong. Even if they're happy with what we have for this season (CSP has already said we want a fast, big, physical guy so that isn't true, but regardless) we still have the issue of Colston's age.. He probably only has 1-2 decent seasons left, if that. Stills is not a #1 type WR. We need to bring another guy in to step into the #1 role BEFORE Colston is gone so we aren't immediately left with a huge hole and big shoes to fill after he retires/leaves.

Would take it all day. He's a cornerstone type player.

Do not want Watkins in this division.

As for Mosley,
frick yes.

He's a LB that has the potential to play his entire career in one place because he could be that special.

2012: 107 tackles (8 for loss); 4 sacks; 2 INTs; 4 PD; 1 FF

2013: 108 tackles (9 for loss); 5 PDs; 1 FF

down year, but the whole defense wasn't 2012 caliber.

If he's there at 27 you have to take him, right? He would've been the top ILB in last year's draft too.

I'd bet money that we don't sit on the 27th pick...not Payton's style. We have about a 3 to 4 year window with Brees and every move from here on out will be for another major run at the Lombardi. I say we trade up, if Payton likes someone.

I've thought about this a few times.. Gamble future seasons for the next 1-2. Trade up to the Rams pick for Watkins, or trade into the mid teens for Gilbert.

I could see it. Dunno if it happens though.

Only times he's traded up in the 1st and it sucked.

a few teams that might go LB are the Packers and the Bengals?

maybe the Cowboys? they need a lot of help on defense.

I think the chances he falls to us aren't that far fetched.

I feel like the eagles will be the biggest hurdle for us when it comes to Mosley

At 27 he probably represents too good of a value to pass up. I am not so sure he is the sure thing many are making him out to be though. I question his decision making and cerebral part of the game. There were many times that Auburn completely abused him and he just looked overwhelmed and confused on the field.
