The reasons I trust the front office drafting.

Jeff Ireland. Last year was our first draft with him on staff and there were some home run picks. As long as he is on the staff, I trust all of the draft moves we make. He is the Bill Belichick of scouting.

People need to realize this isn't a situation where one draft will fix all our needs, but we could have 3 starters right now. Vaccaro plays as a nickel db or olb so we needed a starting safety to pair with byrd.
Rankins is by default the one guy who can turn this DL around.
Michael thomas has the potential to come in and be a solid #1. Don't need him to put up 1k+, but he has good hands to fight for red zone tds

For sure, but if we keep getting solid rookies, our stock can only go up. Makes the future much brighter.

Who do they have starting opposite of Cameron Jordan. Bobby Richardson?

There are more misses in the draft than hits. That's why you need many pics versus fewer pics. Saints will continue to lose until they figure this out. All 3 pics look good, but 2 could be misses. What do you have if that happens, such as, the 2014 Saints draft. Passing Over Reed is a huge mistake. He was 1st round DL. A safer pick than WR. Could wreak havoc when fresh. A strong rush will cause an offense to go 3 and out or make them miss a first down. The offense gets more opportunities.

Both. You'll see different guys on the "line" depending on the offense.
You'll likely even see heavy sets with Rankins, Jenkins, Fairley, and Jordan.
Rankins and Fairley can both play DE.
The bigger question on the line is NT with only Jenkins truly able to fill that role.
DE will be fine. We could use an upgrade but you could say that about most positions.

Kikaha
He's supposed to be a 245 pound outside linebacker. Teams will have a field day running to the opposite side of Jordan. The depth at DE is scary bad.

If only you waited until I posted and saw that Jordan, Richardson, Rankins, and Fairley can all play DE.
Kikaha would come in on nickel as a DE, or play the Jack (OLB which is a DE) in a 3-4 set.

I hope they keep 3-4 as the base defense because I'm not feeling that most of these guys are suitable for a 4-3.

I'm not mad about trading up because there is nothing we could have realistically done in this draft to make us a playoff team next year. Now, the year after that if Brees is still playing well and we don't shite the bed with the money we should have during free agency, we can actually put together a good team. Already looking ahead guard has to be one of the top priorities next offseason

Bill Johnson has made 3 really sound picks

before you say.. "He's too small to be an end!"
He's too small to take on offensive tackles 1v1 and still expect to stop the run or get into the backfield regularly, YES.
If you are stuck on terminology, he will be a DEFENSIVE END when he is playing with his hand in the ground as a loose-5 or 7-technique. He will be a LINEBACKER when he is doing the exact same thing, but standing up, and sometimes out a little farther than the usual 7. But hopefully, this year NO more of this coverage nonsense!
More specific terminology:
The "Jack" role doesn't exist for Kikaha in the 4-3 that Allen runs.
That's a 3-4 term, that got attached to him because of Rob Ryan.
With Allen, Kikaha was playing the traditional SAM, that sometimes blitzed.
He will not be asked to cover anyone this year. (we pray)
What do you call an edge player with no coverage responsibilities that sometimes lines up with his hand in the ground, and other times doesn't? That role is called the LEO (Lineman, End Open), and it defines what Kikaha should be doing. (Explanation) think Bruce Irvin... not Dont’a Hightower

49ers called it an "Elephant" position back in the day if i remember correctly. Same deal pretty much, and OLB with no coverage assignments

Yeh, in the 3-4 it was the Elephant, because sometimes the OLB who normally stood up, would lean over and put his hand in the ground... looking like an elephant trunk.
Also, L(Linebacker)/E(End) ... LE-O or EL-EPHANT they are true hybrid designations
Drives me nuts hearing Kikaha called the JACK... when the damn position name comes from JACK of all trades. Which he is not. He is a damn specialist if there was one. A weakside linebacker in the 4-3, has to be a jack of all trades. He would be called the Jack. Somewhere along the line, it got bastardized and in the 3-4, when the weak and strong side assignments can switch pre-snap, it lost its attachment to the weakside. Then coaches started trying to call the pre-set rusher in the 3-4 the Joker, instead of Jack. To keep the J on the labeling the same, but remove the old Jack of all trades reference.
LEO tells me it's a 4-3 team, Elephant tells me it's a 3-4 team...both tell me Hybrid.
JACK tells me JACK because it's usually WRONG.

I actually agree with most of that.
The part that I take small issue with is that he will play Jack at times. It just won't be called Jack. Maybe it won't be called Leo or Elephant or OLB or DE.
But no matter what it's called (and you and I are in agreement here) he will be rushing the passer and playing the run. He might do the odd coverage but not anywhere near like to end the season.
It was always a mistake to try to make him a Sam. He didn't play coverage in college and to ask him to do it at the nfl level year one was expecting to much.
In time perhaps you can mix up his game more but make sure he can do what you're asking him to do before you ask him to do it.
Edit:
After reading the follow up to another poster, you are taking Jack too literal. It was a pass rushing spot with Ryan (and several other coaches) and was mostly played at the End spot whether standing or hand in the ground.
He does assume occasional coverage responsibilities but so do many weakside DEs in a 4-3.
If you go back in time you can see Smith in coverage throughout the years under different coordinators. It was often but it happened.
