Agreed. An all pro guard is going to make bank.

Betrayed? How so? Should the BRPD not investigated a murder because it might hurt Collins' draft stock? Really?

Sorry you're not based in reality. If Collins is completely innocent, the yes, he may feel betrayed as I said in my post. He could think the timing was shite and they could have waited 1 or 2 days. I'm not saying it is right or wrong, I am saying he (follow along now) could feel betrayed.

I really hope there is a whole lot of sarcasm there. Betrayed by the BRPD? For what, doing their job? They do kind of have to investigate when a murder occurs in their jurisdiction, it was just poor timing for Collins. And exactly what did the Saints do to betray him?

Sorry to see reading isn't a strong suit for the 2 of you. I didn't say BRPD betrayed him nor the Saints. I said LC could feel that way. He could think the Saints should have looked past what was going on (no way they should have) and he could feel BRPD torpedoed him and could have simply waited a couple days. I didn't say this was right, I said he could feel this way.

And if you don't think that's possible, then your reading comprehension isn't the only thing lacking.

"Teams are projecting him at tackle and guard, and our projection with him is as a guard." Sean Payton's quote is why he is not coming to the Saints.

These kids keep hearing Tackle>Guard - it is drilled into their head with no context. Look at Vadal ALexander at LSU - he is clearly a Guard but will not accept it. Collins might be a RT.

In terms of today's contracts:
LT>C>LG>RT>RG

I just don't see Collins being an elite LT. At LG he could play for a very long time and make $8-9M/yr. I think he could play longer and earn more at G.

Top guards are paid as well or better than every position on the line but LT. As a top guard he could ~80 million if he stays relatively healthy throughout his career. Thats likely a more than an average tackle.

Be elite and you will be paid as such.

Top Centers actually are paid more than the top Guards right now. May have something to do with more recent contracts.

Top 5 LT average $10.8M/yr. Top 5 Centers average $8.7M/yr. Top 5 OG average $7.6M.

ETA - Eugene Monroe is an average LT and got $37.5M over 5 yrs. Mike Iupati is an elite OG and got $40M over 5 years.

It makes more sense, being on a minimal contract, to go to a no tax state.

If you are only thinking about one contract then yes, but if your main goal is to set yourself up for a big payday on your next contract then state taxes should not be a big factor.

Should have just drafted him with last pick.
He can say he won't sign but not sure he would truly sit out plus you can always talk them into it.

Not much of a gamble at that point and even if guilty it's not going to stop fans from being fans

Obviously you are not in touch with reality. A woman and baby were murdered. I don't think the BRPD gives a damn about Collins' draft stock or how it is affected. They are more concerned with solving a murder. I can only assume that by the way you insult anyone who you do not agree with that you may just be too young and immature to understand reality.

I think its naive to have tunnel vision on the UDFA contract he signs. There's a mad rush to sign him. He will make up for the money lost in some other way outside of this first contract.

I looked at the top ten contracts for each line position. Guard and center are comparable. Over the past year, the top 4 centers have new contracts while no one in the top 5 guards do. But i really don't care to argue about pay rankings. My point is he will make bank as long as he is elite at his position.

Collins is not going to be a Saint. If he's cleared, this is going to reach insane levels of recruiting, and I simply don't see the Saints having the ammo some of the other teams do.

state taxes should not be a big factor

State income tax is a huge when factored into cost of living. Granted $300,000-$400,000/year(or whatever the UDFA contract pays) is not a trivial sum, but when having to live in NY/NJ,IL,MA and adding in everyday expenses, it becomes a factor. Even though WA has no income tax, Seattle is very expensive. It just makes more sense to go somewhere and enjoy a descent QOL, than to worry about long term deals when your locked into a 3-4 year contract. That's why I think TB/Miami have the the edge in these negotiations.
