Saw this on another site.. Not sure how true

quote:
New Orleans sports radio host, Gus Kattengell, was a guest on a local north Louisiana ESPN radio station this morning and he said Payton WILL NOT sign Collins.

He said the reason is that Payton ,apparently has info on Collins right now.

Not saying this is false, but I feel like this would be more widely reported if true. I follow Gus and his Produces (who is an avid tweeter) on Twitter, and neither have said anything about that on there.

Kromer is the Oline Coach in Buffalo and he is definitely one of the best OL Coaches in the game, so that could be a factor.

I don't see Buffalo being realistic. There is no QB and Buffalo is miserable. He would also have to pay NY taxes on his meager salary. I think he would go to Miami before Buffalo.

i think the browns are the favorite but how awesome would it be for collins to be on team that does the hard knocks this year.

Browns are too dysfunctional. They have no QB and he would have to play in Cleveland. Not to mention he would not take Joe Thomas' spot at LT, nor Biotonio's spot at LG. So Collins would be competing for RT or RG which are lower paying positions.

Sarcasm in response to the post about Collins playing between Evans & Unger as well as the MANY posts thinking one of the tackles can just easily switch to guard.

1.) I think that works against us. Some people would rather the excitement of playing somewhere else. Especially if they spent there ENTIRE lives here already. It's the same as kids going to out of state colleges. Or LeBron going to Miami. Some people just need to get it out of their system.

I don't agree and I don't think it necessarily works against us. As a pro he could live anywhere he wants but I'm sure it's the dream of plenty of them to play for your favorite team.

quote:

He would start day 1 on nearly any team.

Nearly any team, but not all. Saints would obviously be one of them and therefore we are a fit.

quote:

Several teams have a better chance than the Saints. He can pick any of them

A better chance? Don't know about that but yes, there are several teams that have as good a shot as any, and if he wants to play for a winner, the Saints are one of them (I say this because I think the ship gets righted from last year).

quote:

Valid.

Yes boom!

quote:

For his rookie contact we could only pay him as much as any other team. And that's all anyone is signing him for now anyway. After that contract he could go anywhere that offers him more money

Guess I should have specified better. I meant after his initial contract was up. Saints love rewarding guards for playing well.

quote:

You just contradicted your previous point. But what is the "fit"? There are many teams that he will fit in just as well. Maybe he doesn't want to play guard?

Hardly a contradiction in any way. Was more to show this isn't some bidding war the Saints can lose in regards to money offered. Basically this levels the playing field and it comes down to who he wants to actually play for since money is taken out of the decision.

quote:

Not to mention playing somewhere else would allow him the opportunity to get away from the drama that's built up around his current predicament. I'm sure he isn't too fond of BRPD for ruining a once in a lifetime opportunity for him

Eh, I don't put much stock in that. I don't see him not wanting to play for the Saints because of BRPD.

quote:

But as fans we need to take off the rose colored glasses and look at the facts without bias

frick that!

quote:

A lot of the points in this thread are reaches because we WANT him to play here. Nothing more than wishful thinking.

Well duh

"Teams are projecting him at tackle and guard, and our projection with him is as a guard." Sean Payton's quote is why he is not coming to the Saints.

These kids keep hearing Tackle>Guard - it is drilled into their head with no context. Look at Vadal ALexander at LSU - he is clearly a Guard but will not accept it. Collins might be a RT.
