IIRC Drew's cap hit skyrockets next year.

2015. They'll probably extend him beyond his usefulness, convert a decent amount of base salary into a signing bonus so as to free up space, and take a hefty cap hit when they cut him.

It seems like we would've signed at least one player who fits the mold of a 3-4 before declaring the switch in base defenses to the world.

They are probably being paid near the cap hit that we would have taken with a cut.

Maybe so, but they're still taking up 2 roster spots.

I predict, right now, that Vilma hits IR by the 4th game of the season. Wouldn't be surprised if Smith isn't riding the bike along side of him.

This is sad and certainly changes my opinion of Payton. Worse defense in the history of the league and there will be no significant changes...isn't that a kick in the nuts!

Then we need to get rid of as much dead money as possible and just "trim the fat" rather than continually pushing cap hits into the future.

Exactly how I'm feeling right now. Smith and Vilma will be starters next year I bet. Might as well sign Shanle back to.
