Exactly how I'm feeling right now. Smith and Vilma will be starters next year I bet. Might as well sign Shanle back to.

i think they'll be rotational players. If we got a good deal on them, it was a fantastic move. We don't even know yet.

I actually think Smith fits in the defense. My fear is that he will take way too many snaps away from Hicks. Vilma has no place on this defense. He doesn't fit.

I think Hicks is going to get plenty of time at NT. Not like he can play every down anyways

he's probably better than most back ups and adds depth. We'll have to compare his new deal to the current one he had in place

If the Saints didn't structure near the cap hit, then this move is a disaster. If they did, you can't really blame them for keeping them around. We need bodies for a 3-4 and why not try them out? It's better than cutting them and forcing yourself to pay even more in FA to replace two bodies.

I think that we can use their leadership and some younger talented guys to get this defence moving in the right direction!

Plus some free agents

How? without this money freed up there won't be any free agents. they'll be lucky to sign their draft picks. I have feeling it's gonna be just enough to get 2 mil below the cap, which brings them at the cap after signing draft picks. That means lard arse Smith still gets about 12mil this season. ridiculous. I really wanted a clean sweep of the "bounty guys". incase this comes back around they'd be somone elses problem.

Paddy O' @PatrickORly @LarryHolder Well since the Saints clearly are not busy at the moment u would think they'd release smith and vilma's cap figures.

Even we had made no FA signings at this point I would still be pumped if they would have cut these guys, simply because I could look forward to seeing a different product on defensive side of the ball next year. This just feels like we aren't even trying to improve and I am beyond disappointed at this time.

well except for the complete change in scheme, new defensive coordinator, etc

Well, except that neither is suited for the 3-4 (Vilma started shite with the Jets because they switched to a 3-4. That tells me what he thinks of his ability in that scheme. Maybe more years under his belt has improved his skill-sets ).
Well, except they weren't world beaters under Williams either.
Well, except we can make excuses for them until they're actually cut or put on IR (which is a reasonable expectation).

I guess I'm in the minority that thinks his retarded trolling is actually funny. People think it's funnier than it is because it's a tweet regarding a celebrity.

Shefter says they saved 7 mil. If that's true, what a horrible move. They could have saved more than that just by releasing Smith alone. They won't have anywhere near the money we were all thinking they would have.
