$13M guaranteed is much higher than I thought he would get though.

Player 1:
78 tackles (44 solo), 8.5 sacks, 1 FF, 1 FR, 1 PDs, 13 STFs

Player 2:
25 tackles (17 solo), 7.5 sacks, 2 STFs, 2 PDs

Both cost 13mil AVG
Both of them are now on the Saints.

Player 1 = Carl Granderson = value
Player 2 = Chase Young = risk/reward

Changes the whole draft philosophy IMO. BAP at #14 no matter what. I know it won’t be a popular opinion (mine never are) but IMO DE isn’t even a must in the draft anymore in 2024.

This could actually open up a real possibility of a 1st rd QB if the right situation presents itself.

You were making sense until that last sentence. Unless you think Caleb, Jayden, or Drake are going to slide to 14, there's no QB worth drafting there unless your team is desperate (Hello Denver). And even then it would be a mistake. For the Saints it would be madness.

Does this mean that P Turner is done? Not that he wasn’t already

Probably because he’s 31, had 4.5 sacks last year, and 3 before that? He’s close to done.

Was just using barrett as an example of a proven vet. He was coming off an Achilles too.

Been seeing mocks with Olu Fashanu the LT from Penn State falling to 14. We should run to the podium if it happens.

The last DEs that we have drafted were Marcus Davenport, Payton Turner, and Isiah Foskey. The current version of Chase Young is better than any of them. DE seems to be the one position our scouts whiff on in the last few seasons.

Not saying any of those will be available at 14 but if the NFL draft has proven anything over the 40+ years of becoming the fan spectacle it is today, it's that fans know very little about how teams value and grade players.

Its just means hes not dependable and on a short leash. Basically Saints likely won’t be depending on him like they did last season.

They overpaid given the current status of the Saints. A one year deal at that number is usually done for a team that needs one missing piece for a deep playoff run. The Saints' are nowhere near a deep playoff run even after signing Young, unless he can also play guard and tackle on the offensive side.

He is in the last year of his rookie contract. Played in 15 of 51 games. The guy can play the position. Just not from a hospital bed. He has made 10 million so far. Smart business man or the luck of Capt Ahab?

Wow. Sure about that bud? Lol.

Unless you know something I don't?

He's a top 50 producer according to grades/stats. Getting paid like a top 30 guy.

Pros: 1 year prove it deal. Very talented, room for improvement.

Cons: Low effort/Ohio State reputation. If he's great, probably won't be able to re-sign.

I just hope we still consider Verse if he's available. I'm more concerned about the future. 2024 is not our year and I don't believe Chase Young changes that.

Granderson had 53 more tackles from the DE position. Don’t know if that’s an indictment on young or praise for grandy

Turner and Young aren’t under contract for next year. DE is def still in play if the right one is there

Yes this is true. But in hindsight, spending $13 million for a 5th round compensatory pick will be considered a net loss, so I choose not to include that as a pro.

Either he helps us make a deep playoff run or he does well and falls in love with poboys and gumbo and agrees to a friendly extension. Only ways I see this move paying off.

874 vs 735 snap counts on defense. not enough to justify the difference in tackles.

the 49ers SPENT a 3rd round pick for half a season worth of games

we spend zero and could net up to a third round pick if he actually delivers. Or we can have the guy post-Cam Jordan. We'll find out

Chase: .023 tackles per snap or 1 tackle every 50 snaps

Granderson: .05 tackles per snap or 1 tackle every 20 snaps

You’re looking at this oddly. It’s $13m for a full year of Chase Young the player, and possibly as high as a third round pick on top as bonus. It’s also not your money.
