15-16 games and 7.5 sacks for 13 mil is a hell of a deal.

Forget where he was drafted and what his expectations were. That Chase Young was Washington’s failure. New Orleans got a hell of a promising 24 year old DE prospect.

Changes the whole draft philosophy IMO. BAP at #14 no matter what. I know it won’t be a popular opinion (mine never are) but IMO DE isn’t even a must in the draft anymore in 2024.

This could actually open up a real possibility of a 1st rd QB if the right situation presents itself.

I thought to mention Hall after seeing this tweet from Jim Nagy.

LINK

I think he could be there but seeing how teams covet defensive interior players now, he may be gone but he fits the Saints profile seeing how the fascination with Ohio State guys.

I almost started a thread about him yesterday....

how can anyone hate this? 1 year prove it deal for a 24 year old athletic freak who is a former 2nd overall pick. if it doesn't work he's off the books next year. if he does you lock him up long term. if someone throws the bank at him you get a 3rd round compensatory pick. what's the risk here?

Please stop with the common sense. It’s not welcome here.

wonder if Cam slides inside more next season. In an imaginary world where Turner is healthy and Foskey is worth playing, with Granderson and now Young also in the mix, is there enough playing time for all of those guys?

If you can rotate, guys don’t take plays off and won’t wear down as much as the season progresses.

like it. Hope this guy is hungry

2 teams have let him go for not being hungry enough

I honestly would've spent the money elsewhere. Could've gotten 2 players for the 13 mil. Shaq barrett got a deal for around 8 mil.

Could've easily signed barrett and a'shawn Robinson for what they are paying young. Hopefully I'm wrong and young has a big year.

If ST got what it wanted we’d have Jameis for $8mm and Roach for $4mm instead of a potential* star DE

I’m glad it worked out this way

I didn't want Jamie's at 8mil.

And I seriously doubt roach is getting 8 mil guaranteed. Young is getting the entire 13.

You say he might be a future star?

Usually teams don't let young, former 1st rounders leave. That is a red flag.

His work ethic and maturity have been called into question. Didn't they just go through this with davenport?

He has the potential to be, of course. Shaq Barrett doesn’t even fit what we do here and he’s terrible in coverage

Willie Gay is a much better option for this team

Probably because he’s 31, had 4.5 sacks last year, and 3 before that? He’s close to done.

Barrett would play end and rush downs.

He wouldn't be off the ball

how’d that work out for Baun the last 3 years? We don’t value standup pure rush OLB’s that can’t cover

Young is 24 and has potential. As pointed out, Barrett probably has already hit the cliff and will be grossly overpaid this season.

Isn’t that the biggest argument around here is that we’re too old and shouldn’t be shelling out big bucks for players that are done?

The saints should've finally realized their mistake in that. If a player can rush the passer it doesn't really matter whether in a 2 or 3 point stance.

I'm just using barrett as an example. I just think the saints could've gotten 2 nice vets on the d line for the price of young.

Barrett probably has a base of 4.5 or 5mil. How is that grossly overpaid?

Young is getting 13 guaranteed. Saints should've put incentives into his contract.

Yeah that’s just the nature of the business now as far as positional value. Veteran players at the right positions are getting insane money these days

He could be absolute dog shite and this contract, with no dead money for ‘25 wouldn’t be in the bottom 10 of our contracts.

Signing middling players from championship level teams is always a risk. If they can’t produce being surrounded by elite talent, I don’t love their chances of doing it here with lesser talent around them.

Silver lining is that he was coached by Steve Wilks last year, who sucks.

$13M guaranteed is much higher than I thought he would get though.

Wilks actually had the Panthers playing well when given the interim job though.

Wilks got hired by the 49ers and was asked to coach the current 49ers defensive system which wasn't the same as the one Wilks runs.

Chase Young was brought in because that 49ers D-line was leaving some scraps on their plates. Come on... why else would they have made that move to get Chase?
