Saints restructure Morestead and Cam Jordan

#Saints also converted $2.1M of punter Thomas Morstead's 2016 base salary into a signing bonus.
Cam Jordan converted $2.73M of his 2016 base salary into a signing bonus to help #Saints free up cap space.
NFLPA now lists #Saints with $3.03M in available cap space after recent transactions, restructurings.

Chad meltdown incoming...

I know Chad will melt over this, but I like Morestead. He was hurt last year, but he's been the one decent person on our special teams the last few years. This restructure helps. I wish we could find a dependable place kicker.
Murphy sucks. That is all.

Morestead has been mediocre at best for 2 years now. He's 2-3rd highest paid punter. Total waste of money.

The problem with the Morstead situation is that he is by all accounts a helluva good guy and always out in public positively mingling with the folks of N.O. For a good 6-7 yrs, if there was a N.O. festival then Morestead was there high 5'ng it with the fans. I think the FO also has a personal attachment to him. It just seems that most don't want to cut ties even if he is overpriced.
The difference btwn the Pats/Belichek and the Saints/Payton is that they can't keep the personnel side "all business". Saints have kept a number of guys around 2-3 yrs too long bc of this which in turn kills us with the salary cap.

What's sad is of all the garbage players they kept , out of all that trash they just let Colston go like he was nothing. Smfh Colston is the only one that still has some juice left.
Problem with the saints if they do keep them they feel obligated to give them some PT they don't deserve. When they kept bringing meachump and Pierre back they should have been on the damn bench not getting meaningful snaps.
Will Smith had no business in the NFL!!

neither got very much meaningful snaps in their last year...

Will Smith also took a 6million dollar pay cut in 2013, which was pretty much equivalent to us cutting him that year...

Hahahaha at all the homers praising Loomis. He is the sole reason we are in the cap situation we are in. I'm just hoping he doesn't get bent over again by Drew and Tom Condon. Stand firm Mickey

No this is likely the Fairley and definitely the Hill money (remembering the top 51 rule is in effect and all contracts will cost about half a mil less because of the guy they are replacing).
We had a grace period to make the matching of Hill official and it was up (or just about). Otherwise Chicago would have got his rights.

See, you assume it is an absolute and that he is either all good or he's all bad. He made bad signings and decisions with cost on lots of players, but he's also found bargain guys as well as making money situations work. Nothing more than that and nothing less.

I wonder who the trolls will focus their angst on next off season when all the dead money comes off the books and we are primed for a final 2-3 year window of playoff runs?

This is correct, and these are the kind of players we want. Good character guys. Guys who want to be here. Who gives a shite if he's an average punter? Drew is Mr. Community but if you call him out for putting Loomis and the salary cap over a barrel, you get downvoted to Hell. Morestead does what Drew said he was going to do three years ago and still hasn't done and people still hate him.
You can't please everybody.

he wants you to want him
he needs you to need him
he begs you to beg him
shouldn't i shouldn't i shouldn't i shouldn't i be a better punter for 4 mill a year.

this whole entire time. no. 9 has been the real problem. morestead shanking punts and wasting Loomis 2 mill a year for being less than average with a hammy has been the real hero of our generation.
