Well, you can't say we ignored the need. We tried. We are just terrible talent evaluators defensively.

This defense sucked when everyone was healthy. Started showing a little improvement (like going from suck to just terrible) then injuries piled up and it all went to shite.

Saints need a new DC badly and one with a fresh mind. I'd like us to look at a position coach from a great defense. Like the DB coach for seattle, or the dline coach for the Rams. Someone who is ready to take the next step. Maybe not those two inparticular, but someone along those lines.

We also should do a overhaul at the position coaches on this team. Not everyone, but shite, damn near all of them need to go.

Oh well. If anything this'll be a busy offseason.

it's pretty arrogant to draft an obvious project in the 2nd round at a position of need

I think they drafted SJB purely on potential, not planning on needing him this year. I'm not ready to wright him off as a bust just yet but the early returns are disturbing. mostly since dixon has played so much more than him.

It's not arrogant. We evaluated our talent wrong. We gambled and we lost on Champ Bailey.

But arrogant? Try not to make it personal.

Also, i think we need to be looking at the secondary coach as well. There has been no development from our secondary guys we drafted.

Whatever is going on between Payton and Ryan is one thing, but it's hard to blame the defensive struggles this year solely on Ryan. He's not the one out there blowing coverages, missing tackles, etc.

It's not just the draft. Everyone was buzzing about the Byrd pick up. Yet we utterly ignored our very average line backing corps and defensive front. No FA pick ups whatsoever. We have no depth. We rely completely on two or three guys to generate any defense, and one of them has done dick this season (Cam).

I get that. Its really hard to say one way or another without seeing him. Can he really be worse then what we got? if so he should be out the league ASAP. They need to give him a shot

yea i agree, i think its time to see what he can do. the fact that he hasn't seen the field yet to me is very scary. coaches must have 0 faith in him.

Seems like a lot of speculation. Hope it's not true, I like Rob.

that's all this guy does. He is a hack journalist at best. Jason LaCanforna's "sources" are the same ones that were certain Reggie would re-enter the draft and did not want to come to NOLA. He also had sources that stated without a doubt the league would label JG a WR and the Saints would have to let him walk.

He's had a few other really bad "articles" from his "sources", but these are the 2 that always jump out when I see his name.

He saw the field against Detroit. He literally stood there like a statue while his man ran right by him and caught the game winning TD.

thats not exactly and ideal way to ease a rookie into the game. If you judge the guy by that one play then might as well cut him.

the other big problem with this draft…waiving your 4th round pick 6 games into the season. that is inexcusable.

This was an extremely deep draft, and with the exception of Cooks, it looks like we blew this one big time.

Sunsieri has looked extremely promising, actually, but he's on the IR now. Rooks, Powell, Fortt are all gone or utterly worthless. And SJB is a 'project.' So yea... shite draft.

Dude was a big piece of shite and never showed up.

Saints wouldn't be the only ones to cut him.

yea, when they drafted Powell i thought he could be a huge steal but apparently not.

And yeah i would've loved to see what sunseri could've done as a starter when bush got hurt.
