This statement is like 3 months too late. If they issued this back in December it would have carried more weight. Not that anyone is falling for it. Team Gayle all the way.

It's a precisely and carefully composed statement purely for effect. It's totally artificial and everything to do with promotion of an image. I'm not saying it's even necessarily dishonest or anything. It's about what one would expect. It just doesn't mean much of anything except to make them look good and subtly suggest that Gayle is bad.
